Non-league: Adie calls for cash at Verwood
ADIE Arnold hopes his board can find funds for a playing budget as he tries to steer Verwood Town away from the foot of the Wessex Premier.
With just two wins from 11 league matches, Arnold’s Potters sit fourth-bottom of the table and perilously close to the dreaded drop zone at the start of their second step five campaign.
Their latest reverse came when Whitchurch United recovered from Nathan Saxby’s 11th-minute opener to secure a 2-1 success on Saturday, prompting Arnold (pictured) to speak out over his need for resources at Potterne Park.
Verwood’s boss told the Daily Echo: “We need to be more of a threat in the final third and we are looking to lads with Wessex League experience to add that bit extra.
“At this time of year, players start moving around but everyone wants a bit of money. Some want silly money while others want expenses but when you have nothing to work with, it is difficult to get the right players in.
“If we want to get into that middle bracket, then we have to find a way of helping the players a little bit.
“I know there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes and we are not without a budget for the want of trying, but it is holding us back a little bit and some funds would be handy.”
Elsewhere, Billy Walker scored an own goal as Christchurch lost 2-0 to Alresford. Greg Horlock scored at both ends as Hamworthy United suffered a 3-2 defeat at Totton & Eling.
