Non-league: Bashley boss Gazzard could play in goal
Bash's preparations for the Hampshire Senior Cup tie against the club they had planned to merge with over the summer were thrown into chaos by joint-manager Stewart Kearn's resignation.
But Gazzard's problems have been further compounded with regular custodian Nic Jones still struggling to recover from a twisted knee, understudy Nick Thomas sidelined with an eye injury and Cherries loanee Chad Collins ineligible.
Veteran keeper Kearn had also registered as a player, but after seeing his partner in crime head for the exit following Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Arlesey Town, club legend Gazzard could don the gloves.
He told the Daily Echo: "We will ask Nic (Jones) to strap up his knee and give it a go but if he breaks down in the warm-up or feels he can't risk it then I will have my gloves at the ready.
"It is far from ideal but there is little else we can do. Players have to be registered seven days before county cup games so Nic is our last hope and after that it's me on standby."
The Bashley legend of 289 competitive matches made one appearance in goal for the New Forest outfit and kept a clean sheet against Stourbridge in 2011 after replacing the sent-off Joe Prodomo.
But even if Jones spares the Bash chief his stint as the last line of defence, Gazzard could still take to the pitch with influential defender Ian Richardson doubtful for the tie.
Former Cherries player John Bailey, who has been helping with the club's coaching, would direct operations from the touchline if Gazzard plays.
Elsewhere in the Hampshire Senior Cup second round, AFC Bournemouth send a development squad to Wessex League champions Blackfield & Langley while Bournemouth Poppies travel to Stockbridge.
In the Southern League, Taffy Richardson, Michael Charles and Lamin Dibba will all miss Poole Town's Premier Division trip to Truro City, but Jon Davies is set to return with youngster Jack Dickson called into the first-team squad.
Meanwhile, Dan Ackerman will continue to stand in for injured keeper Jason Harvell when Wimborne Town entertain Guildford City in the South & West (all 7.45pm).
