FA Cup: Killick calls for Poole to avoid Wimborne's cup fate
Poole’s spectacular start to life in the Southern Premier has made them hot favourites while Brock, who are likely to field ex-Tatnam favourite Scott Joyce, have struggled on their return to the Wessex League’s top flight.
But Killick insisted he would select his strongest possible XI for the clash and warned his players against any complacency.
“It is important we realise the dangers and start well because things can quickly go wrong,” said Killick.
“The most recent example was Hamworthy winning at Wimborne. Without disrespect, I could not see them getting a positive result there but Wimborne have had to suffer the serious financial consequences and we have to make sure we don’t get caught in the same trap.”
Killick added: “It is difficult to sustain a club at this level and the financial rewards are so big in the FA Cup, even in the earlier rounds.
“Sometimes as a player, you don’t realise that, but once you step into management you become painfully aware and, in a way, I feel more pressure over this game than many others.”
Steve Devlin and Nick Hutchings are both suspended while doubts remain over Warren Cummings and Jamie Whisken, but Killick hopes to be able to call on Marvin Brooks, Jon Davies, Sam Clarke and Lamin Dibba.
Dolphins: Thomas, Clarke, Spetch, Oliver, Dibba, Pettefer, Cane, Davies, Gillespie, Preston, Cann, Brooks, Ohameje, Byerley, Elliott, Whisken, Cummings, Rowe.
Simon Browne is sweating on the fitness of striker Dominic Allen ahead of their tie at Hallen.
Injury forced the Hammers striker, who has netted nine goals in 10 starts this term, to withdraw from Tuesday’s League Cup defeat at Bemerton before half time.
Hammers: Knights, Ayling, Lockyer, Saunders, Biles, Horlock, Tayler, Sturgess, Hester, Claremont, Lanahan, Bassiriki, Pekun, Allen, Penny, Chudy, Martin, Shear.
Winless Bashley will look to put their league woes behind them when they entertain Moneyfields.
Keeper Chad Collins will stand in for injured Nic Jones while Salisbury loan pair Adam Flint and Sam Roberts are eligible.
Bash: Collins, Morris, Boultwood, Farren, Brookes, Richardson, Middleton, Stephenson, Casey, Allen, Sills, Odam, Knight, Porter, Gazzard, Flint, Roberts.
The prize money on offer for the FA Cup first qualifying round is £3,000.
