WIMBORNE Town chief Paul Miller took charge at Cuthbury and then immediately targeted promotion.

Miller was unveiled as Magpies’ new chairman at the club’s annual end-of-season presentation night on Friday.

Miller, previously vice-chairman, succeeded Cuthbury stalwart Ken Stewart, who had held the post for the past seven years.

Stewart will become club president while Miller begins his chairmanship after an eight-year involvement with the Dorset outfit.

Miller believes Magpies must now push for a place in the Southern Premier after finding their feet in Division One South & West. He told the Daily Echo: “We are looking to be promoted within the next two years.

“We will be pushing for promotion next season and we need to try to get into the Southern Premier.

“Everyone is aware of the importance of that.”

Stewart, speaking after confirming that he was standing down as chairman, said: “Over the past seven years, we have tried to create a friendly, family atmosphere at this football club. We have also achieved stability.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Jon Blake claimed a hat-trick of awards at the presentation evening, collecting gongs for manager’s player of the year, players’ player of the year and supporters’ player of the year.

Ex-Cherries trainee George Webb was named chairman’s player of the year, versatile defender/midfielder Adam Costello received the Ted Ryder Shield for most improved player, while top scorer Micky Hubbard took the golden boot.
