Non-league: Cuss salutes 'complete' display
BOSS Steve Cuss described as “our most complete home performance of the season” Wimborne’s 2-0 win over Southern League Division One South & West promotion hopefuls Tiverton.
Micky Hubbard’s penalty and Alex Moth’s first goal for the club helped Magpies avenge a 2-0 defeat by Tivvy in Devon in November.
A combination of goalkeeper Chris Wright and the woodwork prevented Wimborne from winning by a far greater margin.
Cuss told the Daily Echo: “We were delighted with our performance and the result. We started a little slowly but, from the moment we scored the first goal, we dominated.
“Had it not been for their goalkeeper, we would have run out more convincing winners.
“We had been disappointed with our defending at Yate on Tuesday so the clean sheet stood out for me and our attacking play was good as well. We looked solid at the back and good going forward. It brought about a positive result against a team above us in the league.
“Jason Harvell didn’t have to make a save and we created seven or eight good chances so, for me, it was the most complete home performance of the season.”
Hubbard notched his 14th league goal of the season after Jamie Davidson had been upended in the box and Magpies hit the woodwork on no fewer than three occasions before Moth doubled their lead.
Magpies: Harvell, Maybury, Case, Costello, Peprah-Annan, Blake, Sainsbury (Jeffes, 43), Hubbard, Moth, Davidson (Kemble, 82), Webb. Unused subs: Roast, Brian, Ackerman (g/k).
- Will Green’s headed winner condemned Bashley to a 1-0 home defeat by Premier Division rivals Bedford Town in an instantly forgettable clash at Bashley Road.
Frank Gray’s men gave their supporters little to cheer until Mark Gamble tested Bedford goalkeeper Ian Brown for the first and only time after Green had netted in the 58th minute.
Bash: Moore, Stephenson (Strickland, 79), Oliver, Colson, Middleton, Richardson, Casey, Gradwell, Stokoe, Gamble, Knight (Foster, 83). Unused subs: Gazzard, Kearn (g/k).
