Gamble on the spot as Bashley make a point in Frome
MARK Gamble’s second-half penalty earned Bashley a share of the spoils from a 1-1 draw with Premier Division rivals Frome Town.
Gamble netted from the spot to restore parity at the Aldersmith Stadium after he had been felled on 70 minutes.
Earlier, former Bristol Rovers striker David Gilroy had fired the Robins ahead, the frontman opening the scoring in the 53rd minute.
Bashley manager Frank Gray told the Daily Echo: “It was a hard-fought game and the two teams cancelled out one another on a heavy pitch which was a bit tacky.
“Frome is always a tough place to go and we would have taken a point. In the end, we were pleased with a point. I thought it was the least we deserved.
“There were no complaints from them about the penalty. Mark Gamble went down under a challenge and it looked fairly clear-cut from where I was.”
Bashley have parted company with former Wimborne midfielder Liam Green who has followed Matt Vokes out of the Recreation Ground.
Gray said: “Liam wanted regular first-team football and we weren’t going to stand in his way. Good luck to him.”
Asked whether any new signings were on the horizon, Gray replied: “We are always looking at players so, hopefully, we may get one or two in during the next two or three weeks.”
