House hits ton as champs march on
MARK House produced a perfect performance as Kingston Lacy began the defence of their Dorset Sunday Division One crown in impressive fashion.
House struck a ton as the reigning champions racked up 299 for seven batting first against Studland.
The same player then claimed six wickets as Studland came up 33 runs short in reply.
"He bowled exceptionally well and clean bowled five of his victims," said Lacy player Barry Park.
House was ably assisted by James Park (109) as the pair shared a second-wicket stand of 170 to set the platform for victory in the team's first match of the season, after last week's home fixture against Old Blandfordians was washed out.
"We're very pleased to get the win," Barry Park told the Daily Echo.
"Studland are certainly quite a strong side at times.
"The aim is to get up around the title again but there's a few good sides.
"We've got more or less the same side. We've got a couple of new players, which will hopefully bolster the team, but we'll have to wait and see."
Park admitted he was getting a little nervous as Studland closed in on the target, but House and Simon Watkins, who claimed three wickets, got Kingston Lacy over the winning line.
MILLER FIRES TOWN
DAVID Miller fired Poole Town to a dramatic one-wicket victory over Parley with some final-over heroics.
Chasing 168 to win, James Thomas laid the foundations for Poole with a half-century.
And in a tight finish, Miller struck 14 off the last three balls to secure a thrilling win.
In Parley's innings of 167, new Poole signing Aplu Chowdhury starred with the ball.
He claimed six wickets as Parley were dismissed, with Matt Strickland (37) and Tom Jacques (35) leading the scorers.
But despite a tight spell of bowling from Parley's Raj Naik (one for 14 off 11 overs) and three catches by Jacques, Poole made it home thanks to Miller's late show.
KELLY CLAIMS FOUR
EVERGREEN Scott Kelly claimed four wickets as a much-changed Christchurch side defeated Marnhull by 47 runs.
Church batted first and made the most of the warm conditions to set a testing total of 198 for seven, with Eddie Richmond (52) top scoring.
Marnhull got their reply off to a good start by putting on 60 in the opening 10 overs, before dangerman Stu Sweatman fell to Tony Robinson for 40.
Kelly then utilised his experience to slow the run rate and, combined with an excellent spell from 15-year-old paceman James Dugan (three for 35), this helped Christchurch to a comfortable victory.
Old Blandfordians (154) lost against Henstridge (284 for four) by 130 runs.
