BASHLEY'S Richard Morris wants to repay his captaincy mentor Richard Hindley by relieving him of the Southern Premier League t20 Cup.

Hindley will lead holders Havant into battle against Morris’s Bashley when the Division One high-fliers face-off in tonight’s final at the Ageas Bowl (7pm).

Co-incidentally, rival skippers Morris and Hindley both work for Serious Cricket, a Hampshire-based coaching and clothing company – and share the same desk.

Morris, who is in his first season at the Bashley helm, told the Daily Echo: “Richard is a top lad and the banter between us has been good. As a young captain, I have gone to him for quite a lot of advice this season.

“We are both softy spoken by nature but, with that, comes a steely determination. It will be a fiercely contested final.”

Morris top scored with 58 as Bashley booked their place in the final with victory over Sarisbury Athletic on Sunday and was among the crowd to see Havant overcome Totton & Eling on Monday.

“It was the epitome of a Havant performance,” said Morris. “Their reply didn’t get off to the best of starts but they are rarely out of the game, as they showed on Monday. They are well drilled and they bat all the way through. They are going to be a tough side to beat.”

Morris will keep faith with the same group of players that saw Bashley overcome Lymington in the quarter-final – when Sean Terry hit 98 off just 44 balls – and Sarisbury in the semi-final.

Kevin Nash and Andy Neal, both key figures in Bashley’s 2010 SPL t20 final win at the Rose Bowl, have not been named in their 12-strong squad.
