DEPLETED Bournemouth and Kingston Lacy both marked unofficial dads-and-lads’ day by recording six-wicket victories over Blandford and Henstridge, respectively.
Leaders Bournemouth fielded no fewer than three father-and-son pairings at Blandford, while Lacy included Stu Hand and his two sons Oli and Dom against the Somerset border outfit.
And although the two clubs were forced to make changes due to Bournemouth’s Southern Premier League Twenty/20 Cup clash at Bashley, they both coasted home.
Rob Smith (4-25) and Greg Thew (3-25) were supported by their respective fathers Pete and Graham, while son George and dad Rob Russell also played a part as Bournemouth dismissed nine-man Blandford for 119.
Curtis Watton (55) was undefeated at the close, his third-wicket partnership of 53 with Johnny Coombs helping take Bournemouth to the brink of victory. They eventually eased to 122 for four off just 19.2 overs with the contest finishing just before five o’clock.
Lacy, who but for Bournemouth’s cup clash would also have included father and son James and Barry Park, made light work of chasing Henstridge’s 174 with Greg Parsons (3-43) and Dom Hand (2-15) among the wickets.
In reply, Matt Jones (70) and Parsons put on 57 for the second wicket before an unbeaten 31 from Rob Hatchard saw Lacy cruise to 178 for four.
<•>Parley skipper Darren Sargent refused to concede defeat in the title race after guiding them to a narrow three-wicket triumph over Swanage.
Raj Naik (4-23) and Alex Nippard (4-35) helped restrict Swanage to 174 with Ian Booth (55) the mainstay of their innings.
Parley made relatively heavy weather of reaching 177 for seven and had an unbroken eight-wicket stand of 40 between Naik (43) and 16-year-old Jamie Hicks to thank for seeing them home.
Earlier, Roshan Embalagama (46) had steadied the ship for Parley, who remain in second spot behind Bournemouth.
Captain Sargent said: “We will just try to win the remainder of our games and see how it pans out. Teams can be unpredictable on Sundays depending on availability so you never know.”
<•>Talented all-rounder Ryan Beck compiled a classy century as Cranborne put Ferndown Wayfarers to the sword at Penny Lane.
Beck (124) displayed his full repertoire of shots and led the assault as Cranborne racked up a formidable 311 for six.
His wagon wheel was a picture of perfection as he shared a boundary-laden second-wicket stand of 131 with 16-year-old Jack Worpole (67).
Dan Loader (33) also chipped in before Ferndown Wayfarers were routed for 112 with teenage pair Worpole and James Rickiby bowling Cranborne to a 199-run win.
Worpole (3-16) and 15-year-old Rickiby (3-9) were the toast of Penny Lane, although the duo were unable to share in Beck’s double jug of Strongbow.
