Bourne make it into Division Two

SIMON Ridley was the star of the show as Bournemouth won promotion to Division Two following a dramatic tie with Gosport Borough at Chapel Gate.

Ridley (45) top scored as Bournemouth reached 177 for eight (Matt Metcalfe 38) before also claiming vital wickets (3-37) in the Gosport reply.

Bournemouth will join Havant as the only two clubs with teams in the top two divisions of the SPL next season. Paultons clinched the Division Three title with a 39-run win over Sparsholt.

Bournemouth’s Division One campaign came to a disappointing end following an 80-run defeat at Alton. Although Ben Lawes (3-37) helped restrict Alton to 162, Bournemouth were routed for just 82 (Craig de Weymarn 31).

Gav Bailiff signed off in style as Bashley closed with a crushing 111-run victory over Totton & Eling.

Bailiff, who is emigrating with his family to Australia, hit an unbeaten 96 as Bashley piled up 246 for four (Nick Baker 71, Neil Thurgood 33).

In the Totton & Eling reply, Bailiff also took three for 25 as the visitors were shot out for 135 (Kevin Nash 3-29, Matt King 3-52).

Glyn Treagus and Christian Pain both hit 48 as Lymington brought down the curtain on their debut season in the top flight with an eight-wicket defeat by South Wilts.

Teenagers Owain Phillips and Rob Pittman were both undefeated as South Wilts secured the runners-up spot by chasing down Lymington’s 146 for nine.

New Milton completed their Division Two campaign with a 23-run defeat at Hook & Newnham Basics – despite the best efforts of Matt Freeman.

He claimed three for 68 as the hosts ran up 269 for eight before hitting 48 in the New Milton reply.

Wieghardt Van der Walt (50) was also among the runs as Milton came up short on 246 for nine.
