MATT Stickland ensured Parley remain on top of the Premier Division as he kept cool during a heated victory over struggling Suttoners at Dean Park.
League leaders Parley got the better of the basement boys by five wickets in a controversial encounter which left Suttoners skipper Grant Mather unhappy at the manner of the defeat.
His team were left with 10 men after one player failed to appear. Mather called up a late replacement from the club’s second XI but he said, because he was unaware of which player was being sent, he could not fill his name in on the team sheet.
Mather says he informed the umpires and the Parley skipper of the situation prior to the match, but the player was eventually not allowed to bat or bowl due to him not appearing on the team sheet, much to the Suttoners captain’s annoyance.
He felt the player should have been allowed to play a full part in the match because he’d informed the officials of the situation and that the result could then have turned out differently.
“I’ve written a letter to my club chairman about it,” Mather told the Echo.
“I’m being completely honest and I’m not backing down. I’ve played cricket all over the UK and South Africa. I think that I’m a fair person and I was quite right.”
Parley committee member Trevor Jacques said: “As I understand it, at the beginning of the game the opposition only had 10 players and they were named on the team sheet.
“Although they are allowed a sub fielder if they only have 10 men, that person, if not on the team sheet, cannot bat or bowl.
“That’s in the rules. Not just for Dorset, but the rules of cricket.”
Neil Summerson (3-21) and Sam Thomson (2-14) enjoyed a good day with the ball as Suttoners were restricted to 159 batting first.
In reply, Stickland saw the innings through with a fine unbeaten 57, an innings Mather admitted was “superb”.
Roshan Embalagama, who hit 48* off 39 balls, brought the match to a close with seven overs to spare.
n In-form Wayfarers produced another consistent display as they recorded their seventh win of the campaign at the expense of struggling Blandford at Dolmans Farm.
Jason Thake (65), Dean Elsworthy (62) and Leigh Dunham (43) helped guide Wayfarers to 241 for four.
Blandford made a watchful start but an excellent partnership between Alex White (54) and Dan Brockway (28) counted for little as Chris Wade (3-48) and Ryan Wiggins (3-32) took vital wickets to secure a 25-run victory.
Badrul Alam (81), Kristian Wilson (81), Dave Robjohns (64) and Ben Dyson (26) all starred as the former league leaders racked up a massive 317 for nine batting first.
Then Andy Groome (3-24), Jon Fairless (2-36) and Martin Ford (2-39) took centre stage as Weymouth were dismissed for 211.
Stalbridge were restricted to 229 batting first before Keech and Lee Hanratty (75) secured the win for the title contenders.
