A Sexy show from Bashley

FORMER skipper Andy Sexton led from the front as Bashley turned the battle for the New Forest bragging rights with Lymington into a procession.

Sexton hit his second century in three matches to pave the way for Bashley’s convincing 110-run victory at the Sports Ground, their first time pennant win of the season.

His 108 helped the visitors close on a formidable 271 for seven, a target which Lymington – victors over Bashley on the opening day – never looked likely to threaten.

In fact, had it not been for an eighth-wicket partnership of 69 between teenagers Tommy Barton and Cameron Grierson, Lymington’s wounds would have been even deeper.

Sexton received solid support from Richard Armstrong (45), Chris Jones (29) and Nick Baker (25) as the Lymington bowlers toiled (Glyn Treagus 3-54).

“It was a great knock from Sexy and everyone batted well,” said Bashley skipper Andy Neal. “We were really up for it, especially after last week’s defeat by Totton.”

An explosive new ball spell between Matt King and Kevin Nash reduced Lymington to 24 for four.

Barton (56) and Grierson (16) came together with Lymington in deep trouble on 76 for seven before their stand added a modicum of respectability to their 161 reply (King 2-33, Nash 2-4, Baker 2-27, Graeme Allen 2-57).

With Nash sidelined in his fifth over after taking a blow to the calf, 57-year-old Don Read came to Bashley’s rescue as a substitute fielder – despite nursing two broken fingers.

  • BROTHERS Ryan and Lee Beck claimed the bowling plaudits as rejuvenated New Milton completed a hat-trick of victories by easing to a six-wicket win over Division Two rivals Havant at Fernhill.

Paceman Lee Beck (3-27) had Havant in trouble early on before slow right-armer Ryan Beck (3-13) continued to pile on the misery.

Havant’s 124 always looked well within in-form New Milton’s sights and so it proved as Matt Freeman (27), Dan Loader (25), Wheeler (23) and Wieghardt Van der Walt (21) saw New Milton to their fourth win in five.
