DORSET chairman Sean Walbridge believes Wimborne’s Leaze headquarters could host more Minor Counties fixtures in the future.

The home of the Minstermen is set to stage its first Unicorns T20 double-header when Dorset on Sunday lock horns with Wales (11am and 2.30pm).

Asked whether he felt the venue could be used more frequently by the county, Walbridge told the Daily Echo: “Definitely. The location is in the middle of the county and is perfect from that point of view.

“It may be more T20 fixtures or a 50-over game. Ultimately, we would love to say we would take a three-day game there but we will take it a step at a time and see how the club feel as well.”

He added: “We are delighted to be bringing back the game to a Dorset League club. It’s brilliant and we are really hopeful things go well.

“We have played a couple of Leopards games there and have been working hard with the club.

“This is now the next step and we are hopeful to have a really successful two games.”

Dorset have won three of their four T20 contests this season.

They recorded a clean sweep of victories over Wiltshire in a double-header at Bashley before a win and a loss against Devon at Sidmouth.
