BOURNEMOUTH University fresher Dan Goodey celebrated a maiden Southern Premier League five-wicket haul in Bashley's 108-run victory over New Milton at Fernhill, reports Mike Vimpany.

He took five for 28 to send the Green & Golds crashing to 70 after Bashley had recovered from an uncertain start to post 178.

Goodey, who plays for Plymouth in the Devon Premier League out of term time, tore through Milton’s lower order when he returned for his second spell.

“He bowled really well on a pitch that, by then, was doing all sorts,” said Bash skipper Michael Porter.

Left-armer Brad Currie (3-9) did the initial damage as New Milton tottered at 18 for four, with Ryan Beck (29) putting bat to ball and the only batsman to make his mark.

Earlier, Bashley had wobbled at 47 for four – George Watts (3-26) and Lee Beck (2-34) taking two wickets each – before Josh Digby (51) and Tom Jacques (50) struck half-centuries in a fifth-wicket stand which effectively decided the game.

They added 91 as Bashley made 178 (Nic Gargaro 3-33).

Just as victory came into sight, Lymington lost four wickets for five runs and ended up tieing a Premier Division thriller against Alton, each side scoring 168.

A superb spell of new-ball bowling by Matt Metcalfe (4-9 in 10 overs) left Alton wobbling at 31 for four at the Sports Ground.

But the Brewers rallied and through a superb captain’s knock by Scott Myers (70), aided by Mark Heffernan (26), managed to post 168.

Ryan Scott carried Lymington’s response almost single-handedly and, despite losing a succession of batting colleagues, scored 95 (two sixes and eight fours) to ease the reply to 163 for seven.

When Scott was eventually caught five short of his century, Lymington were 163 for eight, six shy of victory but with the dependable Metcalfe still in.

Three runs later, Josh Procter was run out backing up too far at the non-striker’s end before last man George Willis was trapped leg before by Myers for a duck. Lymington 168 all out.
