PARLEY were soundly beaten by familiar foes Goatacre in the Group 20 quarter-final of the National Village Cup.

Put in to bat by their visitors, Parley were in trouble early on at 24 for three and eventually limped to 120.

Opener Jonathan Rake was the pick of the batsmen with a steadfast 42, helped out by Roshan Embalagama (31).

Wiltshire side Goatacre easily reached the target for the loss of just one wicket, which was taken by Alex Nippard.

Meanwhile, an opening stand of 158 between Harry Wright and Ashley Hayes led Wareham to a convincing eight-wicket victory over Dorset League Division Four rivals Abbotsbury.

Club captain Mat Truman (5-39) was in fine form with the ball as Wareham restricted their hosts to 184 for five.

The contest was taken away from Abbotsbury when openers Wright (55) and Hayes (113) guided Wareham to within sight of the winning line.

Hayes's innings included no fewer than 21 boundaries and, once he and Wright had departed, Wareham suffered no further losses and reached 187 for two.

Wareham under-12s registered a 14-run win over Verwood in the first round of the South and East Dorset Cup.
