CHRIS Park admitted Portsmouth's pitch had been "slightly dangerous" after guiding Bournemouth to a second Southern Premier League win in as many starts.

The visitors, helped by no fewer than 51 extras, totalled 206 after electing to bat first at St Helen's Field. And having negotiated a series of unpredictable deliveries, Bournemouth skittled their opponents for 137 to seal a 69-run success.

While delighted to earn another Division One victory, Chris Park revealed how both innings had been adversely affected by an erratic playing surface.

The captain told the Daily Echo: "The pitch was very uneven, balls were bouncing extremely high and then shooting along the floor. It was slightly dangerous.

"Some of our batsmen took two or three blows on the forearm and on the chest, so it was not ideal for competitive cricket.

"To be fair to Portsmouth, when we played there last year, it was a great pitch so whether it was because of the dry weather or other underlying reasons, I don't know."

Despite the early loss of Ben Bridgen, Nick Park (44) and Luke Matthews (20) moved the visitors steadily to 102.

However, the next four wickets fell at an alarming rate, for just five runs, with Andrew Marston claiming three of them.

Chris Park (33) and Chris Bollom got matters back on track and Matt Jones's 27 gave a welcome boost to close out the 50 overs.

Bournemouth made a rapid start with the ball, Simon Woodruff and Jones taking out Richard Locke and Hampshire all-rounder Fraser Hay with just three runs on the board.

Portsmouth made it to 91 with three wickets down but from that point, matters started to unravel.

Days short of his 19th birthday, left-arm spinner Rob Pack ripped into the middle and lower orders as he took five for 37.

The Poole-born youngster finished matters off with the dismissal of Alex Hammond, sealing a hard-earned victory for his team.

Chris Park added: "We had a bit of a wobble in the middle of our innings but the lads applied themselves brilliantly.

"A score of 206 was a really competitive total which we were happy with and Chris Bollom and Matt did fantastically to get us past 200.

"Simon's opening spell of one for 12 was brilliant and that was backed up by Matt who got two very important wickets.

"We know about Fraser Hay's talents and it was a really important wicket. To get him on the first ball was an added bonus.

"Rob, Dom Clutterbuck and Jake Hurley came on at the end and did a great job.

"For Dom to get five wickets in the first game and Rob, another spinner, to get five wickets in the second game was really pleasing."

As a result of their victory, Bournemouth move up to second spot in the embryonic standings, with only Basingstoke & North Hants above them.

Next up for the Chapel Gate side is a home fixture against Hook & Newham Basics on Saturday.
