SKIPPER Chris Park admits there will be some “friendly banter” when Wiltshire’s Jake Lintott does battle with his former Dorset team-mates tomorrow.

Lintott, Park’s vice-captain at Dorset, switched counties in the winter and has been named in the Wiltshire squad for the Unicorns Trophy quarter-final at North Perrott (11am).

The clash is a repeat of a last-eight showdown in 2010 when Wiltshire recorded a narrow victory following a run-fest at Dean Park.

Park top-scored with 50 when Dorset suffered a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Cumberland in the semi-final in 2012 and is the only survivor from the 2006 final at Lord’s where they lost by eight wickets against Northumberland.

Asked what sort of reception all-rounder Lintott could expect when he strides out to bat, Park said: “A couple of the guys play club cricket at Clevedon with him so there will be some friendly banter.

“We know the Wiltshire boys really well from the past two or three years. There is some mutual respect and we all respect each other in Minor Counties cricket. I trust all the guys not to take it over that line.

“We played them in a pre-season friendly which was rain-affected and are very familiar with their team so there is nothing to fear in that respect.

“Playing at North Perrott, it is going to be a high-scoring game. Wiltshire are a good side, we know them and they know us. There is going to be a little bit of spice to it and the lads are really up for it and are confident."

Dorset progressed after topping their group following wins over Berkshire, Cornwall and Oxfordshire – to match the number of victories they had registered in the previous four years in the competition.

They set up a last-eight clash with Wiltshire despite suffering a 26-run defeat at the hands of Devon in a rain-affected final group match, progressing due to a superior run-rate.

Asked whether he had any memories of playing in the 2006 final, Park quipped: “Everybody remembers their first game at Lord’s!”

He added: “The final is played at Wormsley now and it would be nice to get there. A lot of the young lads haven’t played in semi-finals or finals so, hopefully, we will get there one day.

“If we could reproduce the cricket we played in the four group games then I think we would have a good chance.”

Dorset have named a 14-man squad and Park indicated Hampshire’s Lewis McManus, who has hit two centuries in the competition this season, would be available.

Somerset leg-spinner Max Waller is also listed, as is former Parley left-arm seamer Tom Barber, who recently trialled at Taunton following a spell with Hampshire.
