DORSET were left to rue their batting prowess as they suffered a humbling 10-wicket defeat at Shropshire in their Unicorns Championship opener.

Chris Park's side managed just 119 all out in their second innings and Shropshire quickly notched the nine runs required, handing them victory with a day to spare.

Shropshire resumed their first innings at 215 for five and former Derbyshire spinner David Wainwright and James Ralph put on nearly 40 runs before the former was run out by James Hayman.

Ralph was finally bowled by young spinner Rob Pack for 87 but with a few more runs from the tail, Shropshire made it to 296 to take a 111-run lead.

The Dorset reply appeared to be going along steadily at 63-0 but the quick-fire exits of Masoor Khan, Josh Digby, Tom Arnold and Mike Porter left the visitors at 68 for four.

Openers Khan (33) and Arnold (30) had found a rhythm in the first hour that Dorset never rediscovered, the visitors crumbling after Park (10) was bowled by Wainwright with 90 runs on the board.

Dorset added just 29 more runs to their total before being bowled out in the 45th over, leaving Shropshire the simple task of chasing down eight, which they did inside an over.
