BROADSTONE were tormented by an extraordinary show of resistance from Dorchester’s Dan Belt as they suffered final-over heartache.

Belt clubbed an unbeaten 145 for the visitors as Broadstone were condemned to defeat in the Dorset League Premier Division clash with three balls to spare.

Having been put in to bat, the hosts made a decent start as they reached three figures for the loss of Pete Russell, Luke Carter (31) and Daniel Cook (38).

Jono Colegate (30) boosted the total and when he and Connor Tarr (23) had departed, the hosts were 186 for five.

However, several wickets then fell as the overs ticked away. Carlyle Collins, who had weighed in with a useful 37, was caught by George Foot off Joshua Richardson.

Danny Hammett and Mike Holm followed before Peter Thompson (20) and skipper Matt Spraggs saw out the 50 overs, Broadstone finishing on 238 for nine.

The reply of league leaders Dorchester was led by a remarkable knock from Belt, while Dan Morris pitched in with 34, making him the next-highest scorer.

For Broadstone, Holm took four for 42 and Collins two for 37.

Nick Roe joined Belt at the crease as Dorchester inched across the line in the final over.
