LEWIS McManus’s century provided the familiarity as Dorset won their first home match to be played outside the county with one over to spare.

McManus blasted 135 off 145 balls against Cornwall at North Perrott with his opening partnership of 153 alongside Masoor Khan (70) the cornerstone of a five-wicket victory.

Poole-born McManus, 21, had fired an unbeaten 109 to help Dorset win at Berkshire the week before and the second MCCA Unicorns Trophy success saw Chris Park’s men topple the current holders.

Like the Berkshire clash, the triumph came as a result of a frantic chase in a high-scoring encounter after Cornwall had posted an impressive 283 for four.

Matthew Robins (87) and Matthew Rowe (97) plundered 145 for the visitors until the former was trapped leg before wicket from Josh Digby’s tasty delivery.

Hopes that would prompt an avalanche of wickets were quickly dashed as Greg Smith rocketed to a quick-fire 59 from 47 deliveries alongside Rowe, who finished with no fewer than nine fours and a pair of sixes.

The wickets of Rowe and Smith were claimed by Max Waller (2-62) in consecutive balls to take the tally to 260 for three but Paul Smith’s 15 from seven deliveries ensured Cornwall finished their 50 overs with a flourish.

In response, Khan notched seven fours before being run out by Kelvin Snell with Tom Jacques and Waller swiftly scalped.

Dorset were scoring well but still needed to up the ante to win and after Luke Webb had contributed 12 to a 36-run fourth-wicket partnership with McManus, it was Mark Wolstenholme who stepped up to the plate.

Initially alongside McManus, Wolstenholme whacked an unbeaten 40 off just 17 balls, including three fours and three sixes, as the hosts secured victory with six deliveries remaining.
