SKIPPER Chris Park admits he may look to ring the changes in a bid to help Dorset’s fresh-faced side find some much-needed momentum.

The Dean Park outfit suffered a 142-run defeat to Wiltshire in their opening Unicorns Championship fixture on the back of three losses in the MCCA Trophy and a T20 Cup reverse to Cornwall.

Park conceded his charges had failed to eradicate the errors that saw them make a slow start to the three-day campaign last season and revealed that thoughts had turned to calling on more experienced personnel ahead of their next match – a trip to Oxfordshire.

Dorset’s captain told the Daily Echo: “We keep making the same mistakes. We lost heavily in the first championship game against Devon last year and here we are, feeling exactly the same after a poor first half to the season.

“Now, it is a case of trying to get the spirits up among the young lads. They are good cricketers but inexperienced and we are losing too many wickets at key times.

“Our top five batsmen are under the age of 23 and experience in those positions is crucial, knowing when to play the right sort of shot or batten down the hatches 10 minutes before lunch.”

Park continued: “Our targets haven’t changed. From day one, I felt we should be looking to do well in the three-day championship as well as trying to improve our one-day cricket, which didn’t happen.

“We have five three-day games left and, of course, I want to win them all but I really don’t want to be sat here having lost all six.

“Our key objective is to be positive at Oxfordshire and try to win but if that is not possible, we have to be right mentally in order to avoid losing the game.

“A couple of things do need to change in our set up. Maybe we need to make a couple of team changes and look towards a more experienced type of player to give the side a stronger backbone.

“Other than me and Mark Wolstenholme, the rest of the boys are uncapped so perhaps that’s something to look at before we play our next match.”
