THE batting prowess of Joe Weatherley proved too much for Bashley as they suffered a 146-run defeat at Hampshire Academy.

Skipper and opener Weatherley smashed 14 fours on his way to a magnificent 123, a total bludgeoned off 122 balls.

After Ben Duggan and Tom Alsop had been removed for 24 and 18, respectively, a third-wicket partnership between Weatherley and Brad Taylor (61) did huge damage.

The former was eventually caught by Tom Andrews off the bowling of Kevin Nash with the score at a weighty 222. However, the hosts were not done and they added another 68 runs to reach 290 from 50 overs.

Andrews recorded figures of two for 27 while skipper Richard Morris took two wickets in one over (2-5).

In reply, Bashley made a reasonable start and were 93 for three when Morris departed for 12.

Michael Porter put up most resistance with 44 runs off 54 balls and while most of the top order made modest contributions, Bashley fell well short on 144 in the 35th over.

Mason Crane enjoyed great success with four for 44 while Taylor dispensed with a sizeable portion of the mid to lower order with his four for 16.
