FREESCORING Parley outgunned Martinstown on an afternoon of runs galore at Lower Ashton Farm.

Opener Ed Nichols (74) helped the hosts to a flying start before Parley’s Callum Hewetson (3-51) began to work his way through the top of the order.

Ollie Green (3-35) then joined the party to stifle Martinstown’s run rate and keep the score down to 272 for seven from 50 overs.

Parley’s response got off to the worst possible start when opener Harrsion Clarke was caught leg before wicket by Chris Read for a duck off his second ball but Hewetson, who racked up 60 for just 63 balls, combined well with Alex Nippard (111*) to put on 130 for the second wicket.

Green then joined Nippard and hit nine fours and three sixes en route to 74 off 63 deliveries to put his side within touching distance of victory. The visitors won with a total of 278 for four with more than seven overs to spare.

Elsewhere, Wimborne & Colehill saw out a comfortable 28-run victory over Sherborne at the Leaze.

Having elected to bat, the Minstermen started well with openers Colin Randall (34) and Tom Caines (63) putting on 59.

Caines then combined with David Guest (90*) to put on 98 for the third as the hosts posted 241 for four.

James Williams (4-38) quickly got his teeth into Sherborne by clean bowling opener Luke Hancock and scoreless number three Kyle Hopper to leave the visitors reeling on 21 for two.

Sherborne battled on through Dan Baker (50) and middle-order men Tom Harris (32) and Tim Durston (39*) but could only muster 213 for eight.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Poole Town successfully saw out a 12-run triumph at Weymouth.

The Dolphins endured a tough afternoon with the bat at Redlands but David Miller’s 74 saved the day with tail-ender Jon Salt’s invaluable 39 helping his side to 168 for nine.

Salt (5-40) then did damage with the ball alongside tight bowling from Andy Groome, who managed five maidens from his 10 overs as the hosts finished on 156 for eight.
