WINTON’S last-ditch victory at Shillingstone saw Sam Wynn’s side leapfrog their rivals to take fourth spot in the Division One standings.

The visitors surpassed their target of 239 for eight with just one ball to spare at the Recreation Ground to secure their eighth win of the season in dramatic circumstances.

Charlie May’s performance with bat and ball once again proved pivotal as he followed last weekend’s stand of 148 with five wickets and a solid 35 at the crease.

The hosts started well with Matt Salisbury (63) and Jamie Weldon (62) teaming up for a partnership of 118, but struggled to build on their strong score of 128 for two as May (5-34) hit his stride.

Badrul Alam (46) joined May to open Winton’s account with 67 while Mike Kitson (26) scored well from number three before Shillingstone’s Bob Scott (2-56) saw both of May’s comrades off.

Martin Webber (2-33) dismissed skipper Wynn for a duck, but a middle order revival swung the pendulum back in Winton’s favour.

Sam Green (27), Shahid Alam (44) and Charlie Van Wyk (30) all registered solid totals before the visitors edged over the line with 240 for eight.

Elsewhere, Sam Mills’s unbeaten 86 couldn’t prevent Corfe Mullen from becoming the victims of table-topping Fovant’s ferocious fight back.

Tight bowling from Fovant restricted the flow of runs as the hosts finished on 176 for seven, but Corfe looked in control after Tom Vaughan (2-43) and Zeeshan Haider (2-30) left the visitors reeling on 95 for six.

However, Lewis Rutledge (41) and Jack Richards (29*) teamed up to score 61 before Matthew Burton’s contribution won the match for Fovant with two overs to spare.

Meanwhile, a century stand from Andrew Armstrong (62*) and Eric Linge (63) proved in vain as Ferndown Wayfarers crashed to their 12th defeat in 13 games against St Georges.

The Dolman’s Farm outfit registered 177 for three off their 40 overs but were beaten after Rob Cole (58) and Sam Goodhew (67) rattled off 96 for the second wicket. The visitors ended with 181 for five off less than 33 overs.

Swanage jumped up to third with a fine win at Dewlish. The visitors trumped their target of 191 for eight by two runs having lost the same number of wickets.
