WINTON wonder Charlie May wiped the floor with Ferndown Wayfarers as his unbeaten 148 proved the cornerstone of a 91-run victory.

Majestic May found the boundary with 18 fours and enjoyed a stunning century partnership with Sam Wynn (47), while Sunny Diani also made hay at the crease with 38 off 40 balls.

May’s run rampage set Winton on their way to posting 261 for three, a total which proved a bridge too far for Dorset Sunday top-flight rivals Wayfarers, despite the best efforts of talisman Eric Linge.

The captain of Ferndown’s Saturday side set about his task with gusto and struck 93.

Linge’s knock featured no fewer than 10 fours and a pair of sixes before he was skittled by Luke Phillips, who claimed two wickets for two runs off nine balls at either end of the innings.

Owen Farnes (30) contributed well but the rest of Linge’s comrades fell for single figures and were bowled out for 170.

Ally Williams (2-21) and Charlie Van Wyk (2-45) shared the wickets with Phillips as Winton stayed well placed to challenge for a top-three finish.

Elsewhere, captain Peter Hoar’s 86 wasn’t enough to inspire Corfe Mullen to victory over title contenders Dewlish.

Hoar opened the batting and struck up a strong partnership of 59 with Paul Webster, but the skipper lacked support as Justin Miller (4-23) and Lewis Chutter (4-30) cut through Corfe.

The visitors’ original target of 168 was reduced to 127 by the weather and some steady Dewlish scoring soon settled the contest.

Simon Ross (37) was the only significant scorer but despite strong performances with the ball from Corfe’s Paul Webster (3-20) and Richard Withering-ton (2-34), Dewlish eased over the winning line to move within a point of leaders Fovant.

Meanwhile, Swanage were two wickets from victory over bottom club Cranborne before their match at the Mick Loader Memorial Ground was abandoned.

Swans scored 170 for five and had held their hosts to just 54 for eight before rain stopped play and left the visitors with 14 league points for their efforts.
