Time for duo to kiss, make-up and get out

IN Saturday’s Echo, I penned a plea to the last man standing at Dean Court, Alastair Saverimutto.

And while, technically, Paul Baker reluctantly remains slumped in the chair at Dean Court, one thing is now clear: Cherries’ co-owners are now very much doing their own thing.

To read Neil Meldrum's Saturday column, see the Related Links on the right

While the realistic Baker talks of time wasters, £1 bids and his desire to walk away from the club, the always-optimistic Savi continues to open the flood gates about deals of magnitude and his thirst to stay on for the long haul.

Here and now, though, quite how the intrepid duo plan to run the club in the short term when they are both trying to secure their futures both inside and outside the doors of Dean Court, is anyone’s guess.

They both seem to want very different outcomes in all of this and the only thing that will suffer due to the obvious deterioration in their relationship is the club.

And that is why Savi should hold his hands up, admit he has not ‘delivered’ what he promised and join forces once again with Baker in one last-ditch, desperate attempt to sell the club lock-stock and barrel.

“You can talk all day about what you hope to achieve but, ultimately, you will be judged on what you deliver. Delivery is my gospel,” he told the Echo last year.

The only thing Savi has delivered is the sacking of Jimmy Quinn and the appointment of Eddie Howe, which despite now appearing to be an inspired decision from the Cherries’ chief executive, will not help the club survive the rest of 2009.

The whole sorry saga of Cherries’ past year in existence was ‘embarrassing’ in Saturday’s column and it’s become laughable now in light of the £1 bid from Alan Pither’s Bournemouth Holdings.

Ironically (as things always are with this football club) Howe has performed a near miracle in aborting Quinn’s dire hoof-ball tactics in favour of football the Cherries way.

Young and inexperienced he may be, but respect is there in bucket loads and the results of late have given Howe’s men a real fighting chance.

So, from administration just over a year ago, via the bright new future promised by Saverimutto and Baker in August, where exactly is AFC Bournemouth now?

Not much further on, in truth. But if you were a buyer, what would you rather have? One hundred per cent of a football club and a chance to do things your own way, or a half-share in a quickly sinking ship?

Has the Echo has finally come to its senses and realised what a waster Mr. Saverimutto is? The only question is why did it take you so long?

oh I think we all knew all along, but I also guess than when your back is against the wall you ignore things because thats easier to deal with. Baker and Savi were handed a hot potato which they couldnt pass on,I think they were naive and rushed into it .Baker now quite rightly wants out. Savi puts on a brave face whilst looking to do to someone else what has been done to him . not a good move when your plan is out in the open ,but he persists!! It seems to me that administration will be the result of all this. after all who else is foolish enough to jump into the fire at Dean Court?

Well said,Neil! Finally,we get the Echo printing what the fans really feel.
Let us hope that the latest rumour concerning a consortium of Adam Murry and Norman Hayward is true!

I have also heard the "rumour" re Hayward and Murray and hope that it is true - at least these gentlemen have some regard for the Club. Pither - no - it would suit him very well should the Club fold. Maybe too, we should follow Weymouth example to raise additional funds.

I hope Savi & Mr. Creosote have the integrity to do the decent thing:

Sell to a buyer/consortium with REAL money & a GENUINE passion to take the club forward. The fans don't want anymore time wasters like you & your predecessors.

All I can confirm at this stage is that they have spoken, I cannot comment on what was said between them or if they have made any agreements. It is the option that I am personally hoping is the one that pans out.

Adam Murry is the key to all this. He seems to be a genuine guy and we must hope he can attract some kindred spirits to rescue AFCB from this nightmare.
It would appear from what has been said that Pither is poisonous but in the absence of any other bid, who else can Sport 6 sell to?
Pither did say back in the Summer that he would look after the best interests of AFCB. We will probably have no choice but to accept his word.
One scenario is that he buys the club for £1, then buys the ground, then builds a new stadium (god knows where), before developing Dean Court. Pie in the sky, I know, but we can dream.
Come on Adam. You're our main hope. Please don't let us down.

adam is not the key,he is a good pa man,but has no cash,so if he did get control it would be with other peoples money
savi and baker put in a little and now dont want to lose a lot
i know a guy who put 200k into a buisness 6 months ago and is happy to walk away today for zero .just to get out of the constant debt montly
the only wat forward is a complete clearout,a pound is fine
please tell us the true debts ie mostyn ,rent, secured creditors,so on
untill the truth is told we will not get a invester
so im off to get my lottery tickets..

mikeyknowsbest, bournemouth says...

lets assume the club is losing 20k a month at the moment,so that 250k needed just to run for 12 months, the stadium needs to brought for 2.5 milllion and as the rent debt is building up at 15k a month, poor next owner

As several other comments on here well done ECHO or more likely well done Neil Meldrum.

Is the editor on holiday? I doubt him and that dreary dreary writer Perrett passed this for press. This is both informative and an opinion could this be a new start for the ECHO?

No doubt Perrett will have an interesting story about who makes the best tea tomorrow to level things up though
