McAdam and Roach on reserves duty
RESTAURANT HOST: Mark McAdam turned out for Cherries' reserves today
RESTAURANT HOST: Mark McAdam turned out for Cherries' reserves today

EDDIE Howe said Cherries' Pontin's Holidays Combination clash at Exeter today was "ruined" by the weather.

Rico Wilson opened the scoring for Cherries at the start of the second half before Chris Shepherd's penalty and Jamie Mudge's goal saw the Grecians to victory.

But a two-hour pre-match downpour had left the pitch at Exeter's Cat and Fiddle training ground virtually unplayable.

Cherries' starting line-up included no fewer than 10 youth team players and trialist Matt Hartmann, a 19-year-old ex-Portsmouth apprentice.

Howe and Cherries' 52-year-old youth team boss Joe Roach were on the bench, while the club's matchday restaurant host Mark McAdam, a free-scoring striker at BFA Sunday League Division Nine level, was pressed into action as a 75th-minute sub.

Reserve team boss Howe said: "All the first-team players were pulled out yesterday and it didn't leave us any time to bring in any replacements.

"We had a very young side out but the game was ruined by the conditions. The ball wouldn't roll properly and it was an effort to get the game completed.

"It was a lottery, the worst conditions I have ever seen for a football match. The ball kept sticking in the puddles and it was a free for all."

Cherries are due to host Swansea City at Dean Court tomorrow (2pm kick-off).

Cherries: Pryce, Reeve, Newton, Queere, Rose, Finlay, E Cooper, McQuoid, Hartman, Wilson (McAdam, 75), Hutchings. Unused subs: Howe, Roach.

Isn't it Thursday at 2pm?

'Tomorrow' being Thursday as the text is no doubt written for Wednesday's paper.

Why nothing on the £10 coaches? I hope to have to retract that come the morning
