ANTON Robinson bagged his first goal at Dean Court as Cherries maintained their promotion push with a deserved victory over Morecambe.
The midfielder’s calmly-converted 18th-minute strike also helped Cherries avenge their 5-0 defeat by the Shrimps in December.
Eddie Howe’s charges turned on the style as they recorded their first home win on a Saturday for more than three months.
Howe’s men enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and the majority of the goalscoring chances as Morecambe were forced to play second fiddle for long periods.
Cherries’ pre-match preparations were dealt a double blow when skipper Jason Pearce and winger Liam Feeney were again ruled out due to injury.
But fit-again Danny Hollands was restored to the Cherries starting line-up as boss Howe made one change following the defeat at Shrewsbury.
Hollands returned to bolster the Cherries midfield with utility man Marvin Bartley slotting in to central defence and Warren Cummings dropping down to the bench.
Cherries made an enterprising start and went close to taking the lead inside the third minute when Alan Connell’s header from Lee Bradbury’s free kick flashed past the upright.
Their early endeavours were rewarded when they took the lead thanks to Robinson’s third goal of the season after 18 minutes.
The midfielder was on hand to steer home the loose ball from just inside the 18-yard box after the Shrimps defence had failed to deal with Bradbury’s long throw.
Cherries continued to make the running and Morecambe goalkeeper Barry Roche was forced to parry Brett Pitman’s stinging left-foot drive in the 28th minute.
For the visitors, chances were at a premium during the opening period with Phil Jevons’s speculative 30-yarder watched over the crossbar by Cherries goalkeeper Shwan Jalal.
However, Shrimps skipper Jim Bentley squandered a glorious opportunity to level when he ballooned his effort over the top from close range five minutes before the break.
Josh McQuoid’s low drive fizzed narrowly past the post as Cherries quickly regained the initiative before Connell lifted a shot over the top following Roche’s weak clearance.
Cherries had an escape at the start of the second half when Paul Mullin nipped in front of his marker to flick Garry Hunter’s cross inches past the upright.
Fletcher’s header was blocked on the line following a frantic scramble before Roche acrobatically pushed McQuoid’s thunderous effort over the crossbar.
And as Cherries continued to go in search of a second goal, Pitman’s hooked effort flew into Roche’s hands following a well-worked free kick by Wiggins.
Morecambe defender Andy Parrish, who was given the run-around by McQuoid, received the first booking of the game for felling Pitman on the hour.
Mullin’s tame effort after 78 minutes was never going to trouble Jalal before the Morecambe striker hit the outside of the post with a right-foot shot four minutes later.
Although Cherries were convinced they had doubled their lead through Pitman in injury-time, his strike was ruled out for offside.

connell is useless, why does eh play him instead of goulding, connell missed at least three good chances today, the header he missed in the third minute my ten year old daughter could have scored.

Good individual performances, all round team performance, excellen t defensive display, although not the best visitors to DC this season.Once again the ref proved to be baffling in some decisions(4 mins added on?where did that come from)but we`ve seen much worse. Seems Sammy Mc thought they deserved something although it seems no-one else does. The main worry has to be our inability to finish off these games. It should have been 3-0 half time, even more at final whistle, but Morecambe had a chance to steal a point when we should have been out of sight. As already noted Connell had a couple of chances but Brett should really have done better as well,it looked like he had forgotten where the goalposts are(disallowed goal excepted). At the moment it looks like goal difference may be important at season`s end, apart from rochdale and notts all sides in the shake up have similar gd`s,so besides making sure we get the points,it is also imperative to score as many as possible,as goal difference could well be worth that extra point.

Yes, the header was poor but you see misses like that in the Prem.
His running off the ball is very good. He always makes himself available and that's something Jeff Goulding still needs to learn.

A very good TEAM performance. Always exciting when players like josh mccoid running at defenders with pace and thoroughly deserved getting MOM. The ref was inconsistant and he bottled it when he should have sent off their left back. Marvin stood solid and played well out of position. Even bradbury had a good game. Best home gate of the day in league 2 shame that it could have been much more. Why are some fans staying home ? Great vocal support for 90+4mins. UTCIAD.

Not sure where those stats came from Ray. I was at the game and we were the dominant team for the whole match.
