A LAST-GASP strike from Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell condemned Cherries to a 1-0 loss in their Premier League Cup Group C clash at Carrow Road.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who made his senior debut for the Canaries in their FA Cup third-round replay at Chelsea last week, fired home in the 90th minute to overcome Carl Fletcher’s men.

Cherries started on the front foot with Kyle Taylor and Mikael Ndjoli both having chances to break the deadlock.

Striker Ndjoli had the pick of the opportunities when he went through on goal but failed to beat Norwich stopper Aston Oxborough.

Following the break, Cherries keeper Mark Travers pulled off two sharp saves, one of which denied frontman Tristan Abrahams from the edge of the box.

But after Antonio Diaz went close for the visitors, there was nothing Travers could do in the dying moments as Cantwell’s strike proved pivotal.

He skipped away from a couple of defenders and drove into the bottom corner to earn his side three points.

Defeat means Cherries sit third in the group, with one win from their opening three games.

Boss Fletcher told the club website: "It was disappointing to concede another late goal in a game I thought that, defensively, we were very comfortable in.

"We had some good little spells but gave away possession too easily at key moments of the game which is not like us.

"We competed well, stuck to our task and were fairly comfortable in that sense but we needed to be better on the ball."
