LEEDS are some bogey team to Cherries.

Luke Murphy bagged the only goal of the game to make it seven wins out of seven for the Yorkshire outfit against the Dorset club at Elland Road tonight.

And even in this season of glorious victories and scintillating performances, Cherries were unable to prevent the Whites from recording a Championship double.

But while the midfielder’s finely-taken strike after 36 minutes ultimately separated the teams, it told only part of the story from a dramatic encounter.

While the hosts may have enjoyed the better of the first half, an improved second-half showing from Eddie Howe’s men saw them lay siege to the Leeds goal.

But after seeing Marc Pugh’s effort come back off the post nine minutes from time, Cherries’ misfortune was compounded when Yann Kermorgant missed a penalty.

The Frenchman also found the woodwork, his strike clipping the top of the crossbar and failing to trouble Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

Leeds defender Giuseppe Bellusci had been controversially sent off in the 87th-minute incident for a foul on Cherries striker Callum Wilson.

Cherries will also point to a first-half effort from Brett Pitman being incorrectly ruled out for offside with replays showing referee Oliver Langford had made the wrong decision.

Goalkeeper Artur Boruc was recalled to the Cherries starting line-up after missing Saturday’s 2-0 win at Rotherham with a neck injury.

The Pole replaced Lee Camp, who could be facing a spell on the sidelines after tearing a calf muscle at the New York Stadium.

Leeds’ top marksman Mirco Ant-enucci dropped to the bench as head coach Neil Redfearn opted to play Steve Morison as a lone striker.

Steve Cook was on hand to clear the danger after a slip by Charlie Daniels had threatened to give Sam Byram a run on goal in the early stages.

Wilson fashioned the first chance in the fourth minute but, after bursting through from inside his own half, the striker fired tamely wide.

A sweeping move from Cherries ended with Pitman poking a first-time shot narrowly past the post after Pugh’s cross had picked him out.

Leeds quickly countered and Boruc was forced to push Rudolph Austin’s far-post header over the crossbar following a centre from Alex Mowatt.

A ricochet from Morison’s probing low cross fell kindly for Cherries, the ball eventually gathered safely by Boruc as Mowatt looked to pounce at the far post.

Morison fed Austin after seizing on a stray pass from Andrew Surman, the Leeds man dragging his shot wide of the upright when well placed.

Boruc pulled off a top-drawer save to keep out Murphy’s thunderous drive, the stopper pushing the 30-yarder away for a corner.

The Cherries goalkeeper, however, was powerless to prevent Leeds from taking the lead with a stunning strike from Murphy in the 36th minute.

Having collected a pass from Austin, Murphy let fly from 20 yards, his arrow-like left-foot shot nestling in the top corner with Boruc well beaten.

Pitman thought he had levelled when he found the back of the net after seizing on the rebound following Silvestri’s save from Wilson, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.

And as Cherries went in search of an equaliser, Leeds goalkeeper Silvestri plucked Wilson’s close-range header from underneath the crossbar.

Austin wriggled free down the left flank early in the second half and skied his shot from a tight angle when a cross may have been a better option.

Matt Ritchie seized on a poor clearance from Silvestri and saw his ambitious effort from 50 yards sail wide with the goalkeeper stranded up the pitch.

Harry Arter and Pitman were replaced by striker Kermorgant and midfielder Dan Gosling as boss Howe made a double substitution on the hour.

Ritchie failed to get on the end of a cross-shot from Wilson which trickled across the goal-line before Cherries squandered a gilt-edged chance to level.

Wilson, sent clear by Kermorgant’s delightful flick, lifted the ball over Silvestri – but also the wrong side of the upright midway through the second period.

Gosling’s piledriver flashed past the post before Boruc stood tall to keep out Byram’s fierce drive and Cook headed clear after Austin had met the loose ball with a header.

Pugh’s neat footwork foxed his marker to create an opening nine minutes from time but the winger was denied when his delicate shot came back off the inside of the post.

Leeds were reduced to 10 men when Bellusci received a straight red card for fouling Wilson, with referee Oliver Langford deeming the offence had taken place inside the penalty area.

However, Kermorgant saw his resultant spot-kick crash against the top of the crossbar and land into the South Stand behind Silvestri’s goal.

And deep into added time, Tommy Elphick side-footed over the top as Cherries’ final chance of an absorbing contest summed up their luck in the second half.
