Cherries to face Pompey
VICTORY: Harry Redknapp
VICTORY: Harry Redknapp

CHERRIES have lined up an attractive pre-season friendly against FA Cup winners Portsmouth.

Harry Redknapp's Wembley heroes, 1-0 conquerors of Cardiff yesterday, will visit Dean Court towards the end of July.

The clash has been pencilled in for either Monday, July 21 or Tuesday, July 22. The two clubs will firm up the date in the next few weeks.

Cherries boss Kevin Bond, who worked under Redknapp at Fratton Park, told the Daily Echo: "It's always an honour to play Premier League opposition and Harry has been a terrific supporter of this football club.

"He brings teams here nearly every year and he always brings his strongest team. We always have good games against them and Harry makes sure his players don't take the games lightly.

"In fact, I've been here on at least two occasions with Portsmouth when the players have been on the receiving end of a severe dressing down at half-time because they haven't done the business.

"We're honoured and flattered to be hosting them and very thankful to Harry and Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie for agreeing to bring Portsmouth here."

Pompey are the first entry in Cherries' pre-season friendly campaign, although Bond also looks likely to take his squad to neighbours Dorchester Town.

Bond added: "I'm only looking for half-a-dozen games, in much the same way as last year. We won't be able to carry a big squad so I'm not looking for lots of games because most of the players will have to play most of the games."

Nice gesture from the cup holders, it would be great if they bought the cup with them for us all to see, after all we are not going to win it any time soon are we.

I hear Chelsea are heading to the south coast pre season..can we book them in for a friendly? please give weymouth a miss this year.If we do the same things every year we get the same results.
Interesting to see Adam Stansfield lifting the play off trophy with exeter yesterday..three times promoted with three different teams and also has six league winners medals as a youth 11-16 player. Some are born winners. When looking for players this season check the c.v. s first Kevin.

Another kind gesture from Harry, reconfirming his class as an individual and loyalty to our club. Congratulations on the FA Cup too, well deserved and great to see.
