MOSS FELT THE PAIN FROM HOME
AGONY: Neil Moss
AGONY: Neil Moss

DEVASTATED Neil Moss is hoping another Cherries promotion campaign can heal the wounds left by his worst season in professional football.

The keeper, who missed the latter stages of the League One season with a broken wrist, was restricted to learning the club's fate at the weekend via television and radio commentaries.

But despite not being in the side during the run-in, homegrown stopper Moss still felt the pain of being relegated.

"I was at home and gutted, but the boys must have been devastated," he told the Daily Echo.

"Carlisle away was probably the hardest game we could have hoped for and I'm sure it was a pretty sombre drive home for the boys."

Moss had never endured the drop before Saturday, having always survived in his time at Southampton and during the Great Escape season.

He said: "This is the first time I've been relegated in my career and it's pretty devastating when you sit at home and can't do anything about it.

"You've got to feel sorry for the lads after putting so much effort in and ultimately getting relegated.

"You almost wished it wasn't quite so close, sitting there with it all coming down to whether you can score one goal."

Moss described the season as "by far and away the worst" in his career, after a series of injuries restricted his first-team appearances.

And the latest prognosis on his broken scaphoid bone is not good, as he had to go under the knife for a second time to try to repair the damage.

"I thought at worst it was a cracked wrist bone and it then turned out to be the worst one I could've broken," he explained.

"The operation didn't work and I had one again two weeks ago. It's been hard to take, it's such a small injury in certain terms, but the wrist and hands are a goalkeeper's tools.

"The first operation was done and the surgeon did his best, but the scaphoid bone has no blood flowing through it, so the fracture line didn't heal at all, which is quite common.

"It's just a case of fingers crossed now for the next five or six weeks. It's been in plaster since the operation and I've got another five to six weeks to go."

I have to admit I thought the same on the Jo K front when we signed him, little did I know it would come true, as for Mossy I hope he recovers but part of me think we may have seen his last game for us, fingers crossed for him as he has been a real class act for us at times.
