Bond credit to Mostyn
BOSS: Kevin Bond
BOSS: Kevin Bond

BOSS Kevin Bond believes Cherries could have gone into liquidation had it not been for Jeff Mostyn's timely intervention.

Mostyn stumped up £80,000 to keep Cherries afloat just hours before his offer to buy the club had been accepted by administrator Gerald Krasner on Monday.

Krasner yesterday awarded Mostyn preferred bidder status after revealing the club had been "in danger of collapsing" before the current chairman had stepped in to save the day.

Mostyn's consortium, which includes Steve Sly and at least one other member, was given exclusivity and now has an agreed period of time to complete the deal.

Bond told the Daily Echo: "It's fantastic news for the football club. I don't think enough people have really grasped it because they seem to think that there is an ulterior motive and always like to question this and that.

"I know Jeff has got AFC Bournemouth's best interests at heart and that is his first and foremost concern. He is not looking to come out of this with any great profit or trying to do land deals.

"The scenario would probably be quite the opposite whereby it will cost him more money. He's got the best intentions of AFC Bournemouth at heart and deserves a lot of credit for taking it on board."

Bond added: "Sometimes, I think he could be throwing good money after bad if he's not careful and, as a personal friend, I really don't want him to do that.

"But he has sat back and had time to digest the situation. It would appear he wants to carry on so I take my hat off to him and wish him the very best of luck.

"It doesn't bear thinking about what might have happened if he hadn't come forward. I think there was a very real possibility that the club could have gone into liquidation.

"There have been so many people who have had a view and been quick to criticise and tell other people how the club ought to be run.

"I think Jeff has done a fantastic job of running the club since he's been here. He's very popular and I know he will do as good a job as anyone else so I think the supporters ought to back him in every way they can."

Bond, whose friendship with Mostyn goes back more than 25 years, added: "He's a good man and you can't have enough good people working with you.

"The relationship between the chairman and the manager is probably the most important in a football club.

"Contrary to what people want to believe, we have plenty of disagreements about the way I do things or things that I've done. It's not all sweetness and light between us but I've got a lot of respect for him as I hope he has for me."

Time to bury the hatchet but at least lets be realistic before we do.
JM came in proberby with good intentions told us he had purchased the Club and then we find out later it was all a loan. Then he said we were operating for the first time within our means and we were not clearly
Then he took us into administration which frankly he should have done a Year earlier.

As for being popular I assume you mean with your circle of friends because I dont think the Staff who were slung out think much of him . But all is not lost He appears to have saved the Club even if only for 5 days at the moment and it may all have been part of his plan for a bright future to take the Club to the brink of extinction and then bring us out of it again with the debts wiped out. If thats the case then he may well become Populkar with the Supporters but that remains to be seen . He is all weve got so we have to hope that your opinion of him formed over 25 Years is right. To be fair I think Jeffs main concern is protecting his Money and then looking after the Club and I dont blame him for that for one minute after all he is a Businessman. Lets hope we will have enough funds next season to be able to cover for our injurys . The Jury is still out but the door is not closed we will just have to wait and see.

At the end of the day Mostyn has put his money where his mouth is and for that he should be applauded. Lets hope he gets his chance to run the club like a business, free of burdening debts. Then and only then should he really be judged.

I agree with Kevin you need good people around you, and the manager chairman relationship is crucial, just a question what will happen when the Chairman needs to sack the manager or the manager wants to leave, becasue in business a manager cannot be friends with his employees it does not work, and whilst I congratulate Jeff for supporting his manager, there will come the time when there will be a need for change and I just question whether Jeff and Steve will apply the same treatment they did to some very loyal and experienced employees to their friend the manager, somehow I doubt it, and that may not be in the best interests of the club. Personally I think such a relationship in any business is not healthy as it must influence business judgements. Still only time will tell, and hopefully the situation will not arise, as Kevin is doing an excellent job at the moment, but football goes in circles as we all know.

No one else has put their money where their mouth is, without him there would be no club.
If it was left to some of the fans on here who dreamt of mystery business men etc etc, we would have no club left, but of course they are right! Yawn Yawn!
Thanks Mostyn, I have a club to go and watch at Carlisle and its thanks to you!

Well said Its good that The Chairman backs his Manager but as you say it has to be run as a Business and I think it would focus the Manager of any Clubs mind if he knew the Chairman would make changes depending on performance and not personal friendships. That said Bond seemed to do better when it was possible that JM would not be there to back him anymore I just hope that this continues at least until after Saturday byut to be fair he has done very well and Good Luck to him. We musnt get to carried away with this preffered bidder stuff it doesnt mean that at the end of the day he will find the money to really make this Club viable. Just hope that he has the investors he has been promising for 2 Years up his sleeve. He must have something or he wouldnt have put his money in or at least I hope so. Its all very twisted and strange

I dont think people should get to carried away with the £80 investment, Jeff is shrewd businessman and I would think that investment has been secured against a player sale, so his investment will be safe, and at no risk, as I am sure we will see at least one player sold after saturday

I don't think I have ever questioned JM's initial desires to do the best for the club. It must be said that some of his tactics have been somewhat suspicious. However, he must learn from his past mistakes and ensure he does not alienate fans, sponsors etc by not communicating. I also feel he has to do something fundamentally different to last time (or surround himself with others capable of doing so), if we are to survive and prosper in the long term.

i just wish mr moystyn had been as free with his cheque book pre administration as he is now ,maybe just maybe this whole saga could have been avoided AFCB sitting mid table( with incidently more points scored than last season) rather than we are now holding on by our finger tips praying we can make it 7 in a row

A tremendous amount of dredit must go to KB also. He received a tremendous amount of critiscm during the 2 thirds of the season but he really does seem to be getting it right now.

I must also applaud him for having the strength to stand up and say that he has made mistakes during his reign but he has learnt from them and is becoming a better manager.

He seems to be getting more from the players and has maybe learnt that he was to quick to critisce and cast a side certain players. Look at the team that started the season and the team that is finishing it!

If the worst is to happen i say stick with KB. He has finally found out he needs his players even if they were signed by somebody else.

Hey I have been one of Bonds worst critics and may I say with good reason. But I will say that I was impressed not only with his upturn in performance but more importantly for standing up and saying look Ive made mistakes I have learned from them . I think you will find that now Bond has basicly said what we have been saying is sadly true we can all move on and after what has happened over the last couple of months he will staying for a while
At least he has held his hands up and come back fighting Well done Bond change in fortunes change in attitude lets hope Good Old Jeff follows your principles and starts being more open
