A SENIOR MOMENT
John Bond
John Bond

JOHN Bond is hoping history could repeat itself as son Kevin looks to mastermind the final leg of Cherries' Greatest Escape.

Bond senior was among a bumper Dean Court crowd to see Cherries keep alive their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over Crewe on Saturday.

Victory saw Cherries claim a sixth successive league triumph for the first time since 1970 - the season John Bond steered the club to promotion.

Maximum points at Carlisle would see Cherries equal a club record of seven consecutive wins, a tally set under John Bond between August and September 1970.

More importantly, victory at Brunton Park could see Kevin Bond's charges preserve their League One status, providing results elsewhere go in their favour.

John Bond told the Daily Echo: "I can't believe the run that they are on. Everything is going well but there is still another game to go.

"There was so much riding on the Crewe game and they showed so much character. It's going to be a difficult game at Carlisle but anything is possible. It's a 50-50 situation and you just hope the coin falls on your side.

"The team has represented the club and the supporters brilliantly and deserve what they are getting. They've been through a bad time but maybe everything might turn out to be good for the future."

John Bond, who managed Cherries between 1970 and 1973, took son Kevin under his wing during his time in the Dean Court hot seat and also during spells at Manchester City and Norwich.

He added: "Kevin had to work really hard all the way through his playing career. People kept telling me he wasn't going to make it because he wasn't big enough, strong enough or good enough. He finished up playing more than 600 games and was captain at every club he played for.

"I spoke to him recently and he said that if he could look back over the year and learn from what's happened, he would be a 100 per cent better manager."

Discussing his father's comments, Kevin Bond said: "I think it would be fair to say that whatever has happened to me in football certainly hasn't come the easy way.

"I've had to fight and work really hard. Sometimes, I think I might have been a slow learner and not so quick on the uptake. Maybe it's taken a little while to find my feet as a player, a coach and a manager. But I feel like I'm getting there slowly."

I think we would all agree with you Kevin on that last remark, still better late than never, and if you do pull it off it will be some achievement.

Get back in your hole John Bond. You had a decent coach in Ken Brown. But just how many football clubs do you ruin throughout your reign of terror throughout the football league. I will give you one point you talked a god game poor little pretty boy hasn't got that skill you know, er,as I was saying.

A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE GONE VERY QUIET LATELY!
KING KEVIN HAS A CERTAIN "LUMP IN THE THROAT" RING TO IT!
COULD THIS BE THE "UGLY DUCKLING" STORY ALL OVER AGAIN?

I still retain serious doubts about Bond's capabilities as a Manager. His performance from August to December is testament to that. However, if we win on Saturday, irrespective of how other results go, I'd give him another season. However, unless the Administrator gets his act together it could all be academic anyway.

Lets hope it is Laurie. But whats wrong with that? If Kevin Bond went on to be the next Harry Redknapp (however unlikely this may be) then full credit to him. He done a brilliant job recently and long may this continue.

UP THE CHERRIES!!!

Thats certainly true, and if Kevin can learn from this seasons mistakes (Teflon, Perrett, Badbuy) and invest in some willing youngsters there is no reason why he can't become a half decent manager in the future.

If it wasnt for Bond senior dismantling and stealing what was probably the finest team we ever had, who knows what we could have achieved? Some of us have long memories and he should go and crawl back under his rock.

I hope Bond Jnr goes down in AFCB history as the Manager who pulled off the 2nd Great Escape
I respect the comment that he has made mistkes and should learn from them. If he had adopted that attitude earlier I dont think he would have had half the flack he got. But as GMcMahon says better late than never,

Yoo have got a l;ong way to go though to equal your old mans record of ruining Clubs

As for Bond Snr hardly the best

people make mistakes in life nobody is perfect. whilst some of his signings have not come off he has brought kuffour, bartley, pearce and gradel to the club, and bradbury has done a great job at full back of late. bond deserves some time to prove himself in the future. as for bond snr he does not seem a popular man but his time in charge of this club for me are the best times this club has known

‘Hindsight’ must be one of the best ever invented word something we all rely upon and use everyday however by the time we realise what we should have done it is too late. There are too many ifs and buts in this world. What if Bond senior had not sold our best players, what if Bond junior had learned his lesson earlier? Imagine today as Sunday 4th May what will be saying? Are we sharpening our knives or will we, hypocritically, be praising the pants off Bond junior? What we should be doing at this moment in time is supporting our team 110% and spur them on to a fantastic seventh win. And if the other teams do us favour we will thank them if not we will support our team 110% in League 2 and beyond.

I can assure you I will not be hypocritically praising Bond, and I certainly will not be praising the pants off him, what a disgusting thought, I will however congratulate him on recovering what looked to be an impossible position which he was party to, I still do not yet rate him and he has yet to win me over, but I will say that I have spent the last few weeks proud again, is that down to him or down to the lack of pressure or down to the lads, I will finds out on Saturday if they can take that last step, as for Bond 6 wins back to back has been great but it still only balances out the long run of games without a win.

If this is a genuine comment from KB, then maybe there is hope for him as a manager. All the early season comments were along the lines of, 'Blame anyone but me'! I can back a manager who admits to his mistakes AND learns from them.

Now let's all get up to Carlisle and do what we can to help keep the dream alive.

THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME OF THE SEASON AND THEY ARE GOING TO SPEND ALL DAY ON A BUS?
SOMEONE HAS TO BE KIDDING!
IS THIS A PROFFESSIONAL OUTFIT OR NOT?
FLY THEM UP AND LET THEM HITCH-HIKE BACK!
THAT IS A PRETTY DUMB THING TO SAY BUT IT WOULD MAKE MORE SENSE THAN THE FIRST ALTERNATIVE!
