Bond admits time is running out
 |
| Kevin Bond |
CHERRIES boss Kevin Bond has admitted that the clock is ticking on his team's "almost impossible" task to avoid relegation.
Away defeats at Leeds on Saturday and Oldham on Tuesday night left the Dorset side 11 points from safety and in desperate need of a victory tomorrow against Yeovil Town at Dean Court (3pm).
Manager Bond knows that time is rapidly running out, with Cherries having just nine games remaining to salvage something from what has been a troubled season on and off the pitch.
"We're still in there fighting and I think it makes tomorrow as near a game that we have to win," said Bond.
"Mathematically it's not that way but games are running out and we need to get some results.
"Avoiding relegation would in itself be an achievement for the football club and the deduction of points has made that almost impossible.
"With the administration and deduction of points, it's hard on you when you look at the league table and mentally how it affects you. I don't think it really has until now."
The Dean Court chief revealed he does "nothing else but worry" about the team's plight.
He said: "I love being associated with Bournemouth but I don't want to be associated with being down the wrong end of the league, whether it's of our doing or not.
"Hopefully the players feel the same way. It's not a situation I'm comfortable with.
"While we're still in there, maybe to a degree you're almost kidding yourself that you've got a chance of getting out of it.
"You convince yourself you can still get out of it and have still got a chance of getting a performance. When realism sets in, that's when it becomes really hard."
Bond is hoping to extend David Forde's loan from Cardiff City to help ease his goalkeeper crisis.
He said: "David has joined in with the spirit of the club and integrated really well.
"He's put his neck on the block because he has joined a club in trouble and he wants to try to help us get out of it if he can.
"Without sounding disrespectful to Fordy, if I could get Harry to lend me David James to come in goal for me I would but that's just not going to happen.
"We need to be thankful we've got Fordy, who is a very good goalkeeper."
A familiar face will be in the Yeovil ranks in Pompey loanee Jean Francois Christophe.
Christophe endured an injury-plagued loan spell at Cherries.
Bond said: "He didn't really get started here and broke his wrist not long after he came here.
"But he's been given an opportunity at Yeovil and I hope for the remainder of the season, apart from Saturday, he does well."
Skipper Neil Young is doubtful after he sustained a knock against Oldham on Tuesday, while fellow experienced players Jo Tessem (back) and Lee Bradbury (virus) are also struggling.
Cherries: (from) Forde, Young, Gowling, Pearce, Cummings, Bartley, Cooper, Hollands, Gradel, Partington, Pitman, McQuoid, Vokes, Kuffour, Pryce, Hutchings, Bradbury, Tessem.
Yeovil Town: (from) Flinders, Peltier, Forbes, Skiverton, Lynch, Church, Barry, Stewart, Christophe, Woods, Kirk, Guyett, Rose, Williams, Owusu, Stieber.

Bond , the games that were critcal for you to win were weeks ago. Its no good saying the same old things this week now its too late. And don't hide behind the -10 points as an excuse for why we are at the bottom. Add the ten back in and look where you have got us! Finally is there any chance our young future stars might get a look in before the final game of the season?!

Bonda says "I don't want to be associated with being down the wrong end of the league, whether it's of our doing or not." The arrogance of the man! Don't try and think that the fans are idiots. It [bold]IS[/bold] of your doing. You are an incompetent manager. If it wasn't for your "Daddy" Mostyn, you would have been down the road a long time ago. The crowds have dropped not just because we are losing, but the manner in which we lose. That is down yo you, Kevin Bond.

I agree with you Bimht, time ran out before the season even started. You cannot get rid of most of your first team, alienate the rest and then expect to perform at this level (or indeed any other). I have stuck by my agreement to lay off Bond until investors were confirmed. That day has arrived. BOND OUT!!!
