Cherries complete Addison deal (UPDATED)

Cherries have completed the signing of Miles Addison for an undisclosed fee.

The Derby County man penned a three-year deal at Dean Court this afternoon following talks with the Dorset club.

The news brings to a close the long-running transfer saga surrounding Addison, who Cherries have been trying to bring in throughout the summer after the Rams made him available.

Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell had earlier confirmed to the Daily Echo that Addison was close to agreeing a move to the League One outfit.

Boss Paul Groves has made no secret of his desire to land Addison following his impressive loan spell with Cherries last season.

Addison has played as both a central defender and midfielder during his career, but Groves is most likely to use him at the heart of his back four.

The Cherries manager is now expected to turn his attentions to recruiting a left-back.

Really good news, i was starting to get concerned that this might not happen as it had dragged on a bit.Welcome back Miles, you could be back in the championship soon enough.

So glad that this is concluded. Still say I'd rather see him in the middle of the park though. But then who to take out, we're gonna need to play 18 players next season to keep everyone happy

Well that's Zubar done for then. Cook will most likely get off without a prison sentence so it's Addison and Cook at centre back.
As I've said previously Addison will satisfy our midfield thug requirement, with Zubar and Cook at centre back and cover from Adam Barrett. No need to spend any more money. Just get on with it PG.

I'm glad this deal has finally been done. Miles will add some much needed height and physical presence to the team which is something the team have sadly lacked in previous years. Set pieces will be interesting now with Demouge and Addison in there to scare opposing defenders!

Fantastic news ! - Been waiting for Miles to finally commit himself to AFCB.
We are beginning to see the side take on a new look now - Miles will fill the centre-back position - Which gives us a 'larger presence'and solid 'spine' through the team, more than we have had for a long time.
Shwan (6'2"+) Miles (6'2"+) and Frank (6'2"+) !
All looking very good for our coming campaign !

We're gonna struggle with that. We've got 24 first team players (excluding players such as Strugnell, Carmichael and the rest of the 'development squad') and there seems to be a few more on the way. Adding to this, we'll probably get some short-term loans in during the season. And no-one seems to be leaving (although I'm sure Pugh will by August). With a squad of 25+, we're not going to keep anyone happy(Including Demin, who's paying unnecessary wages). Players such as Molesley, Fletch, Sheringham, Stockley, Partingdon are not going to get any gametime

WHAT? jalal is/was a brilliant keeper, the best outside of the championship and one of the best outside of the prem' this time last year - hopefully now bradders has jogged on Jalal is the first name on the team sheet as he should be

good signing. Zubar is a much better centre back IMO, so I hope this doesn't mean Zubar will be dropped, because it seemed last season Grovesy didn't think Addison and Zuby were capable of playing together

Not a left back - we have no cover in the event of injuries. Addison a good signing, particularly in light of Cook's trial sometime in the Autumn - he faces serious charges and if convicted will certainly face a prison sentence. A Cook, Zubar partnership in the centre of defence with Addison in midfield for me.

5 weeks to go and the squad is looking strong, bring on The Pompey!

c0ckbeard says...
5:09pm Thu 12 Jul 12

No mush, stick him in the centre of the park, give the rest of midfield the confidence to play on and up the field. He can be the steel to Gregory or Fogdens silk

We have so many forwards that we need a proper anchor man to close out space to attack on the break. Seriously, we can't really justify a midfield full of artistry. I love MacDonald, Gregory, McDermott but if you add Grabban and McQuoid as non striker forwards we are over loaded. It's a hard team to pick and form will play a big part now we've cover almost everywhere, but I'd be looking to Jalal;Daniels, Francis, Zubar, Cook;Addison, MacDonald, Grabban, McDermott;DeMouge, Tubbs

But form and opposition will play a part in selection, if we can be tactically aware and flexible, this could be a great season. We certainly have the actors, let's hope they get the right script and direction

c0ckbeard, do you seriously consider Gregory a silky player?

I think he is the luckiest footballer at that club, never worth a contract and I dont think he will play this year in a decent side.

True, Gregory's hardly silky but didn't wanna mention Arter. Yes Farmer I've seen Addison in the middle of the park plenty. I've been up here 8 years now. He doesn't have a great range of passing but he won't have to move the ball far. MacDonald next to him or Francis/Daniels bombing on outside him. I'm optimistic anyway

Demouge
McQuoid

Subs:

According to the BBC sports website, it's one of a number of conditions Pompey have to meet in order to be allowed into the division They also have to agree to pay all football creditors in full (unless otherwise negotiated), and accept financial controls.
-
On a slighter brighter note, their first team squad had dropped to eight players, all of whom will have to go. Brighter is relative. I don't wish this to be happening to Pompey or any other club.

I am loving reading all the ideal midfields etc.

The trouble is i fear that PG has got this obsession with playing Arter, who, imo, wouldn't even make the subs bench !

Zubar is a must for me. But once again PG didn't see it that way for the 8 games in charge.

Its a worry.

Very pleased with this signing, tremendous power & presence and, as others have noted, we should have a decent chance of scoring from a few more corners this season.

Having the bulk of our transfer activity completed so early is reassuring & gives us opportunity to look forward to start of season with some optimism. Wwell done to club for getting bussiness done early.

Not sure it will be the end of Zubar it will be a loss if it does Miles can also play in midfield and Cooper has gone and Zubar can play at F?B at a push would rather see Barrett go than Zubar who I think has played very well for us but who knows
