Cherries: Groves rejects interest in former star Anton

Cherries manager Paul Groves has poured cold water on rumours claiming he is poised to swoop for popular Dean Court old boy Anton Robinson.

The Huddersfield Town midfielder has been linked with a return to Cherries since the end of last season.

Robinson is contracted to the Terriers until the summer of 2014 following his transfer from Cherries in August 2011.

After moving for a fee understood to be in the region of £250,000, the 26-year-old made 28 appearances for Huddersfield last term.

But he did not hold down a regular starting place as the Terriers earned promotion to the Championship via the League One play-offs.

There has subsequently been talk that Cherries are considering a move for their former central midfield star.

But while not ruling out a future bid, Groves insists those suggestions are currently wide of the mark.

Asked if Robinson was on his radar, the Cherries boss told the Daily Echo: “Not at this moment in time but he wouldn’t be somebody that you would completely rule out.

“On our list of priorities in terms of people that we are pursuing, the forward option is the one that is on the go.”

Former Weymouth captain Robinson enjoyed a productive stint with Cherries after being signed by Eddie Howe for a nominal fee in 2009.

Meanwhile, Groves confirmed that Cherries remained interested in ex-loan star and versatile Derby County player Miles Addison but confirmed that there was no update on negotiations.

Of course we wouldn't want Anton back.....

Not when we are prepared to field Arter, who, when the likes of Robinson were here, wasn't even able to make the bench.

Oh dear, how we've slid backwards in our "forward thinking"

We should be biting their arm off to get him back. Idiots.

Why are the echo asking groves about signings any way it's Tom Mitchell who makes them.

Yes we do - hopefully with all his injury problems behind him. Groves must be one of the few who doesn't realiaze we need a ball winner in mid field. Ah well- che sara - as the song says.

After seeing how poorly Anton played against us and the negative response from Huddersfield fans I'm not convinced we need him back. Moseley is very much still with us and deserves another chance.

I agree that Molesley deserves a chance, but is no where near the calibre of player we need to get promoted, if that's what they're aiming for, which strangely it seems as if they are

The problem is mate we are "forward thinking" unfortunately thats all they seem to think about FORWARDS not defense or midfield.

Before his injury a couple of seasons ago Mark was a terrific player and my personal favourite, but sadly i dont think think that he will recapture that form and would struggle to make an impact now. Robbo has not found it easy since he moved to udders and would be a welcome addition to our squad, dont think to many would disagree with that.

Robbo played well when Eddie Howe was in charge which seem to indicate that his style of football suited him best in the same way that Josh performed better under Eddie than he did at Millwall. On the other hand some of the players that fare badly with us usually go on and do better elsewhere. I await the new season with interest and wish all concerned the very best.

Could do a lot worse than bringing Anton back. Like to see him and McDonald in the middle. Pugh on the right, McDermott who I think could be superb, on the left. If he sorts himself out.
