Cherries: Howe in no rush to sign striker

BOSS Eddie Howe is on the look-out for potential loan recruits but admits Cherries’ impressive goalscoring form means there is no rush to bring in a new striker.

Howe reported that he had been on scouting missions in the past few days in a bid to identify possible targets, should he choose to bolster Cherries’ resources.

The Dean Court chief revealed he was running the rule over trialist frontmen Ashley Chambers (Leicester City) and Simon Dawkins (Tottenham Hotspur), with a forward appearing to be the priority in his player search.

Howe has previously stated his intention to strengthen his attacking options. Michael Symes is not fully fit, Steve Fletcher has just returned to training and Steve Lovell is recovering from ankle surgery, leaving a shortage of available and seasoned strikers.

But despite that, Cherries have not struggled in front of goal and Howe insists that, while their fine record continues, there is no need to panic and make signings.

Speaking to the Echo yesterday, Howe said: “We’re still a little bit light in that area, with Symesey making good progress, but slow progress, from his shoulder problem.

“Jayden Stockley and Lyle Taylor are coming on and both did well in the reserves, so they’re improving all the time and are there as well.

“But in terms of recognised and experienced strikers, we’re a little bit light.”

When asked if someone could be brought in before the weekend, he said: “It’s a possibility but, as I’ve said before, we’re not going to bring in someone for the sake of it.

“Fletch is nearing fitness, so that will give us another option.

“Currently, we’re scoring a healthy amount of goals, so it’s not really a problem at the moment.

“As long as we continue to score goals, there will be no need to panic and bring in someone.”

Discussing the player search, Howe added: “We decide very carefully before we bring in anyone, so it will be a case of identifying the areas and then identifying the players.

“We’ve been to watch a lot of games this week with a view to loans – it’s just a case of putting it all together – so we’ll wait and see what happens.

“We’re always busy scouring what’s around, but it changes on a regular basis due to injuries, who’s available and things like that.

“Even if we’ve got everybody fit, we’re always out and about to see the next potential player we can fit into our squad.”

Howe also revealed Cherries were “still looking at the goalkeeper situation”, with Shwan Jalal’s understudy Dan Thomas sidelined by a medial ligament problem.

Think it's that fine line again. If we get a striker from a premiership club then that club will expect us to play them. We were promoted through team spirit last season and our progress is down to that again this season so bringing a newbie in may upset certain players.
It says on there that we are looking for an experienced striker, the names mentioned arent household names so maybe stick with what we have.
Bradders and Ings are other options and always can put Feeney down the middle and Robbo wide.
Whatever happens in Ed we Trust

there is an old saying, improve your team whilst it is playing well do not wait for it to start to slide, from comments that have been made I am not convinced it was ever the clubs intention to bring another striker the moment it was shown that Josh McQuoid could become a replacement

Perhaps the reason that Josh hadn't really come through as a wingman was because his footwork is still reasonably basic and he isn't particularly adept at dropping his shoulder, unlike Marc Pugh who is.
When BP's departure forced him into the middle, his great pace and his eye for goal has been a massive bonus. It will be very interesting when (or should that be if) Steve Lovell is fit. Michael Symes / Fletch is the key here. A good service from them and Josh could really go places.

When all our strikers are match fit it will give Eddie a headache as to who to play.
He must be looking forward to that luxury.
Meanwhile, looking for a loan striker is an option. The team is playing well, but we always seem to be waiting for the next injury.

A short term loan until Fletch / Symes / Lovell are fit makes sense as cover. At the moment we are light in these areas. When all fit the strike force with the addition of Josh looks awesome. There will few defences that will relish playing against them.

See that Scumhampton have withdrawn offer to Nigel Adkins. Not good news for us. Taking their time though aren't they ? Looking at the betting, they are spoilt for choice. Eddie still hasn't ruled it out has he ?

The team are doing really well at the moment. There's an old saying "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it"

now that we seem to have a surplus of midfield player,s i say again try danny hollands as a striker if we really need one, strong, holds the ball can lay it off to other players, and has a terrific shot on him. as for eddie going to southampton, he has never actually said he does,nt want the job this is worrying. but there again if it wasnt for cherries giving him the chance as a manager he would,nt be held in such high esteem.
