Cherries: Steve aiming to lead revenge mission

STEVE Cotterill’s Notts County will be on a revenge mission when they host Cherries at Meadow Lane tonight.

The Magpies have climbed three places to fourth after winning four on the trot since Cotterill took charge last month.

Cotterill was among the crowd at Dean Court to see Cherries register an impressive 2-1 win over County just 34 days ago.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to,” said Cotterill. “Before I came here, I was at the game there when we got turned over so I’m sure the boys will be looking for a bit of retribution.

“Everybody will label it a big game but it will probably be bigger when we play Rochdale at home. Every game is a big game. It was important we beat Hereford when I first came in, then Macclesfield.

“It was important we went to Accrington and got something and then we had a derby against Chesterfield at home. When you get to his stage of the season, they are all big games.”

A County victory would see them leapfrog Cherries into second place on goal difference, while they would go third with a draw. The Magpies have not been in the top three since August.

Cotterill, whose bank manager is a Cherries supporter, joked: “I think I will have to make sure all of my savings are tucked away nicely so he doesn’t do anything with them! I’m pretty sure he will be here with the away fans, as he doesn’t miss too many games.

“I have lived in Dorset for 10 years, my kids grew up there, went to school there and are at university there, so there is an affinity.

“There are some great people there. There are a couple of directors that will be here, Steve Sly and Jeff Mostyn, who is their vice-chairman, and they are top people. I’m really looking forward to seeing them. But they will know I have to be professional and all my thoughts are with Notts.”

Previewing the clash, Cherries boss Eddie Howe said: “I watched them against Chesterfield last week and they have changed their style slightly. A new manager has got new ideas and they have had some good results since we last played them. They have crept right up so it’s going to be a tough game.

“They’ve still got games in hand on us so it is all set up to be a really entertaining game. Hopefully, in front of the cameras, we can produce a good performance.

“They are a good side. They have got some good players. Before the season started, they were right up there as the favourites to win the division because of the money they had spent. I don’t think they had a fantastic start but they are coming good now.”

The worrying thing is that Cotterill has been to most of our home games this season and therefore knows all about us.
But when our backs are aginst the wall we pull through.
Danny, a performance like in the last game would be most helpful.
Be an interesting battle between Hughes and Marv as Marv obviously upset the bald thug in the league match!!
Good luck tonight boys, results were good for us on Saturday, a point today would be fantastic

these 2 managers are the best young prospects in the country, I believe both will have their day, but tonight I would settle for equal rights, a draw, good luck all.

Further expansion on Notts, top of form table, four wins two draws, since Cotterill took over four wins, scored 10,conceded nil,and lost only once at home in league this season. On paper this looks really tough, but luckily football is played on grass.A defeat will still not be the end of the world,in fact I thought two wins(more would be nice) from March would be okay and then we can kick on in April with returning players. However these six-point games seem to bring the best out of our players and teams just can`t seem to catch us(same as our inability to catch Rochdale) so here`s hoping for more of the same.
I see Notts have given 1,500 tickets to local schools to `generate a carnival atmosphere`.They also have 25% off everything in their club shop in a `push for promotion`,presumabl
y on the basis that it`s better to get some income off merchandise than to have it gathering dust.
Wonder if the club are going to do anything similar for the last few games.Hopefully we will have settled things before we play Chesterfield, but like many years it may well depend on our last game,so how about installing a big screen.Looking even further forward it is possible we may have some very large away support coming to DC,is the temporary stand going to be re-installed.

Yes - we all would love the lads to win tonight. My heart tells me a win but my head tells me that it could go against us tonight. I believe that the absence of Pearce in the back line will be our downfall. You may get away with it at home but away to Notts who are on a roll, they may be too strong for us especiall if they get their noses in front. A draw would be an achievment. I sincerely do hope I am wrong

Regards
