Cherries: Local faces key to club's future

VICE-chairman Jeff Mostyn believes the “local” make-up of Cherries’ new board is a key ingredient as the club’s new owners look to provide some much-needed stability at Dean Court.

Mostyn, who is today set to hold talks with the Football League about Cherries’ plight, officially returned to the corridors of power last week.

And with an eye on the future, he has given his assessment of the new team which will be attempting to solve Cherries’ off-field problems and steer the ship into calmer waters.

“We’ve all been together now for a few weeks, we’ve got a better understanding of each other and we complement each other and we’re going to work together,” he told the Echo.

“We really just make up a board that have very concise and constructive ideas for the club.

“The main difference is that we all have a vested interest in the football club.”

He also insisted that the new personnel provided a good mix of experience and fresh approaches.

He said: “We’ve got the experience of Steve (Sly), myself and Adam (Murry), and now you have a breath of fresh air with Eddie Mitchell and Neill (Blake) coming in.

“I think they bring a feeling of stability that you’ve got local people now, who all have a passion for the football club and that is different to the previous owners.”

Meanwhile, director of operations Blake said last week that Cherries were hopeful of getting their transfer embargo lifted and Mostyn confirmed that the club’s staff would receive their June wages, which are due today, on time.

The wages news is the best news for a while. We need to keep the nucleus of the squad. We all know what areas need strengthening, now we can start building positively

Whilst this is all very positive news. What is the position re Eddie and Jason, will they be given enough of a budget to field a competitive team is now a vital question and one that needs an answer. The report yesterday was far from encouraging and when we have the example of Mr Mitchells former Club, Dorchester to look at, slashed playing budget, Manager and Players leaving and Relegation, we may all have cause for worry. We know that Jeff Mostyn was very supportive of his Manager and players, but he is not the man in charge.

Getting overly worried already Old Codger, it's only been just over a week.
There is much needed to be done and as I said yesterday I feel the outcome of Eddie and his contract will come down to the negotiations with HMRC, I would not put that much trust in one report on the radio.
As for cutting costs I see that as a good thing, we can't run the club as it has been for the last decade so that will have to be done, if it means we stay put in league two for now better that than going out of business.
I will not get concerned about the squad until we know the outcome of Mostyn's talks with the league, I am sure all these things together are what is holding up Eddie and his new contract, but they had to be sorted 1st didn't they??

The Club's Web Site says that they have rached an agreement with HMCR, but the report re Eddie & Jason hasn't been denied and if true represents an alarming situation. The majority of supporters want to see some progress this Season and won't accept another relegation battle.

Don't want to get into an argument over this but I can't see where you get a relegation battle from?
we have the players from last season and as of this moment there has been nothing from Eddie Howe to tell us he is leaving, I wouldn't get so wound up over this until it's is 100%, also didn't Mitchell say that keeping Howe was a top priority so there is plenty to contradict each other over this.
So I personally wont concern myself about Eddie until there is something in writing from him or the club to tell me, until then I will give it the same as all the other rumours.

It's a very fine line to walk, The squad and budget can only grow in line with what the level of support pays for and that's the bottom line,I would be happy to just steady the ship for a bit with a view to building slowly but sustainably over the next few years.

How about quoting the source of information when statements like "Pitman for sale" aremade so we can all decide whether it's got some basis in fact, whether its someone pretending to be in the know or someone just setting a hare running ? I'm all for debate but not rumour-mongering.

I have been reading all the news available to me about AFCB as i no longer live in the area, and i am impressed with the new owners attitude and their short-term goals. I think the club is a long way from being stable financially but is at least heading in the right direction and is safe for the time being. As for the football side, the second half of last term was great. Eddie really got the boys playing and they showed that their is some really good talent there. We have the same team bar 2, if we can get in a few loans and maybe a free or 2 but without going over budget on the wages we can seriously challenge for promotion. As for people saying Eddie is holding the club to ransom that is ridiculas as he is AFCB through and through. I am really excited for the new season to start already lets hope the stadium is filled like it was against Grimsmby more next term!!!
