ANDREW Surman believes a top-10 finish would be a decent second prize for Cherries after falling short of last season’s points total.

Cherries racked up 46 points in the Premier League in 2016-17 and soared to ninth place – their highest finish in the football ladder.

This season, Cherries have accumulated 41 points ahead of the final game of the campaign at Burnley on Sunday.

And midfielder Surman is hopeful they can sneak into the top half with a positive result at Turf Moor, although they are reliant on results elsewhere going their way.

He told the Daily Echo: “There is always room for improvement and we are not going into the Burnley game thinking about relaxing.

“We want to win the game, finish with a good performance and take that momentum into next season.

“There have been times this season where we have dropped points and have been disappointed, and it’s almost been a case of what could have been.

“I think we could have finished higher. But if we can get a positive result at Burnley and other results go in our favour, a top-10 finish would be good."

Cherries have never won away against the Clarets, with six draws and eight defeats to show from their trips to Lancashire.
