CHERRIES hitman Callum Wilson has dubbed Saturday's showdown with relegation-threatened West Brom "the big one".

The Dorset club are six points clear of the Premier League drop zone and will hope to take a giant step towards survival with victory over Alan Pardew's side.

Rooted to the bottom of the table, West Brom are eight points from safety and have lost their past seven games in all competitions.

And Wilson knows the importance of banking victory at Vitality Stadium (3pm).

He said: "Six points is only a small gap and we want to build on that. Tottenham was disappointing having played so well for 80 minutes but Saturday is the big one.

"We're playing a team who are also in a relegation fight and we can't afford to drop points against teams in and around us like we have of late. We have to focus as it is going to be a big game in our season.

"West Brom beat us on the first day of the season – I wasn't fit at the time – and that shows we can't take them lightly. Teams at the bottom are more dangerous because they are fighting for their lives.

"We need to make sure we have the same attitude and apply ourselves correctly. They will make it uncomfortable and it is going to be up to us to be patient and try to break them down."

Wilson embarked on a run of four goals in seven games between Boxing Day at the end of January. But he has failed to find the net in Cherries' past five fixtures.

The 26-year-old faces plenty of competition for a starting spot following the return to fitness of Jermain Defoe and says it is important to believe goals will return.

Wilson said: "The main thing is performances. I'm focused on helping the team. Goals are nice for a striker but I'm not going to lose any confidence by not scoring from week to week.

"I know the goals will come so it's important not to get too frustrated.

"There is a lot of competition among the strikers but it's good and healthy and keeps everyone on their toes. You have to make sure you perform week in, week out to keep the shirt."

Cherries left-back Charlie Daniels is hoping his team will have the same intensity against West Brom as they did in spells of the 4-1 defeat to Tottenham, a scoreline which flattered the visitors.

Daniels said: "If we start well then I think we will be in a good position.

"A big positive to take out of the Tottenham game was our intensity and attitude and the amount of chances we created against one of the best sides in the league.

"We'll take those positives into the West Brom game."

Centre-half Nathan Ake added: "We need to win this one to climb the table and get away from the relegation zone as it is still very tight. We need to have the right mindset."
