STRIKER Callum Wilson believes Jordon Ibe’s maiden goal for Cherries will give the winger a major confidence boost.

Ibe broke his duck on his 46th Premier League appearance for the club by bagging the winner during today’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal.

The £15million signing from Liverpool in July 2016 added to Wilson’s second-half leveller as Cherries came from 1-0 down to see off the Gunners at Vitality Stadium.

Ibe, who has started 26 times for Cherries in the top flight since his move from Anfield, found the target for the first time since scoring for Liverpool in a 1-1 draw at West Brom 20 months ago.

The 22-year-old playmaker has shown flashes of his rich potential during Cherries’ recent five-match unbeaten run in league and FA Cup and has also gone close to scoring on several occasions.

Wilson, who notched his seventh of the campaign to cancel out Hector Bellerin’s opener, said: “Jordon is a quality player and it was nice to see him put one in the back of the net.

“He does it all the time in training and we just wanted him to get one in a game so, thankfully, he has. It will lift him.

“Strikers are judged on goals and wingers on goals and assists. I think it will boost his confidence and we are going to need everyone confident in the coming games.

“It can be massive for him. He has been getting assists and putting in good performances.

“But it is always nice to get a goal. As a front player, games tick by when you aren’t scoring and, thankfully for him, he has a goal so he might pass me the ball a bit more!”

Wilson, who nipped in ahead of Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech to touch home Ryan Fraser’s cross for Cherries’ 70th-minute leveller, added: “It was nice to make history for the club and be part of it.

“We came so close to beating them last season and didn’t get the result we had wanted after they came back to draw 3-3. Thankfully, this season, we managed to get the job done.

“Having gone behind, we showed great character to get back in it and then managed to get in front. The three points were much needed.

“It proves to us that we have the quality in the dressing room and that we shouldn’t be in the situation we find ourselves in.

“We are moving up the table, we are five unbeaten so just need to keep heading in the right direction and picking up points.

“It is always nice to score against one of the top teams. It is a move we have been working on in training.

“Wingers and full-backs put the ball in early and across from front. I knew that if I made the movement, the ball would come and, thankfully, I got there ahead of the goalkeeper.”
