AARON Ramsdale might have endured a difficult Football League debut but Eddie Howe insisted the youngster could become a "great goalkeeper".
Just a day after completing a loan move to Chesterfield, Ramsdale was between the sticks for the struggling Spireites' 4-0 defeat at Accrington in League Two.
Mark Hughes and Sean McConville put Stanley 2-0 up and the lead was further extended after the break, Ramsdale credited with an own goal after failing to hold Kayden Jackson's driven cross.
The hosts got a late fourth when Mekhi McLeod's shot was spilled by Ramsdale and Billy Kee slotted home from close range.
Howe, who signed the 19-year-old from Sheffield United 12 months ago, told the Daily Echo: “I think it’s important Aaron plays games now. He has developed well and trained well. We think he has improved since he has been with us.
“Now the acid test comes – he has got to show that in games. And games which are going to be really important, big-pressure games.
“It will be really interesting to see how he develops from afar because we really do believe he could be a great goalkeeper."
Reflecting on his Chesterfield bow, Ramsdale tweeted: "Disappointed today! Sorry to all travelling fans for today's trip! Mistakes happen but I can only look forward to next week and try to put it right!"
