CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe praised Callum Wilson for his resilience following his comeback hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Huddersfield.

Wilson netted his first Premier League goals since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a training session at the start of February.

It came just 15 months after the frontman had sustained the same injury to his right knee, forcing him to miss the majority of Cherries’ debut season in the top flight.

Howe, whose own playing career was ended by a knee injury, said: "I have been there myself. You have a serious injury and it’s a lonely and hard place to come back from.

"Callum scored a hat-trick in his first taste of the Premier League and it looked like he had the world at his feet before it changed in an instant.

"Throughout that period, he always maintained his enthusiasm and positivity. He was always a good person to engage with and see and he worked incredibly hard on his body to make sure he came back in the shape he has so full credit to him."

Meanwhile, Cherries are sweating on the fitness of Jordon Ibe after he succumbed to a knee injury on the stroke of half-time against the Terriers.

Howe said: "He took a knock to the outside of his knee. It is too early to give a diagnoses but, hopefully, it is not a serious one."

Jermain Defoe was ruled out having sustained a calf strain in training and Howe was hopeful the striker would return to be in contention for the trip to Swansea.
