DEFENDER Steve Cook believes Cherries' Premier League showdown at Newcastle "could define our season".

Cherries visit St James's Park on Saturday bidding to register only their third league win of the campaign.

Eddie Howe's men have taken just seven points from their opening 10 games, while the Magpies have made an excellent start on home soil following their return to the top flight.

Rafa Benitez's team have beaten West Ham, Stoke and Crystal Palace and drawn with Liverpool, with their only league defeat at St James's coming on the opening day against Tottenham.

Cook helped Cherries chalk up a 3-1 victory in the north east in their debut season in the Premier League and says the players are fully aware of the significance of the clash.

He told the Daily Echo: β€œIt is a huge game and one which could define our season.

"We need to win these games coming up and know we can go there and win.

"It promises to be a great atmosphere and, if we could turn the crowd, it would be a huge boost for us. It is a massive game for us.”
