CHARLIE Daniels felt the playing surface at Wembley “wasn’t great” for Cherries 1-0 defeat against Tottenham.

The national stadium, which hosted an England international as well as two NFL fixtures during the past month, set the stage for Christian Eriksen to net the winner against Eddie Howe’s men on Saturday.

Asked about the standard of the pitch following the reverse, Daniels replied: “I think it could be better but I think everyone knows that. It was no excuse.

“You expect it to be the best you have ever played on. It wasn’t great but we have played on a lot worse pitches.

“I am sure they will get it right, they have had a lot of games on it and the NFL games, so there is no wonder the pitch is like that.

“It’s not quite like Dean Court – Dean Court is very, very good.”

On facing his former club, the defender added: “You see some old faces you haven’t seen for a while. In that sense it’s good but the club has moved on a lot since I was there.

“They seem to be going in a good direction.”
