BOSS Eddie Howe praised the contribution of Dan Gosling to Cherries’ Wembley effort.

Former Newcastle and Everton ace Gosling was handed a recall for the 1-0 Premier League defeat to a star-studded Tottenham side.

Utilised as the most advanced of Cherries’ midfielders, the 27-year-old put in an industrious shift at the home of English football.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “I thought he did very well. I thought that Dan was in part one of the reasons we looked so solid defensively.

“We played him there to give us his legs, his defensive instinct, his ability to get round the pitch and break things up.

“And he also has an eye for a goal. We didn’t get the chance to see that but I thought he did very well.”

Christian Eriksen scored the winner early in the second half when he burst into the box and, after the ball squeezed under the sliding Simon Francis, slotted into the corner.

Howe added: Obviously it is small margins and sometimes as a defender you can make one slight mistake and get punished and I think that’s what happened with our defenders.

“Franno did well. He was part of a really good back-five performance.”
