CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe has hinted his summer transfer business might not be over – but also insisted there was no “desperate need to strengthen”.

Manager Howe moved swiftly once the window had re-opened to draft in four recruits ahead of the new Premier League season.

Asmir Begovic was unveiled at the end of May as Cherries’ first signing, the goalkeeper joining from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee – believed to have been around £10million.

Jermain Defoe then arrived on a free transfer from Sunderland before Nathan Ake became Cherries’ record signing when he completed a £20m move from Chelsea.

And Howe brought in a fourth addition when talented young winger Connor Mahoney penned a four-year deal after leaving Blackburn Rovers.

The rumour mill has continued to link Cherries with a host of other players with Leicester’s England under-21 international Demarai Gray recently at the forefront of the speculation.

Although Cherries have reportedly tracked Gray since he burst on to the scene at Birmingham, suggestions they had failed with a bid of £20million were believed to be without substance.

And the Daily Echo understands the same applies in the case of Napoli midfielder Jorginho, who featured against Cherries in Sunday’s friendly at Vitality Stadium.

The Sun newspaper yesterday reported the Italian club had “turned down” an £18m offer for the player after the link had initially been made during an interview with Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

While Gray’s name is almost certain to be on Howe’s list of possible targets, it seems likely Cherries would either need to sell before they could buy or reduce the wage bill by offloading players.

Cherries, who finished ninth in the Premier League last season, kick off their third top-flight campaign with a trip to West Brom on Saturday.

Asked for an update on his squad strengthening ahead of the visit to the Hawthorns, Howe told the Daily Echo: “I’m happy with what we’ve got.

“We acted early in the market and are delighted with the players we have signed.

“To say that we were finished would not be accurate because I never consider our business done.

“You just don’t know what will happen. You might get injuries, suspensions or problems and need to be able to replace players if you have to.

“I am not going to say no but we are not, at this moment in time, in desperate need to strengthen.”
