CHERRIES midfielder Sam Matthews could be set for another loan spell with National League Eastleigh.

Matthews made 13 appearances for the Spitfires during a productive stay last season and boss Richard Hill is keen to have him back.

The 20-year-old scored three times for the club, including a finely-taken double in a 3-2 win at Torquay in March.

Matthews, who spent the first half of last season on loan to Braintree, could be signed in time to feature in Eastleigh’s National League clash with Sutton at the Silverlake Stadium tonight.

Poole-born Matthews started out playing for Cherries under-10s and appeared in first-team friendlies against West Ham and Real Madrid shortly after signing his first pro contract in 2013.

He also had a brief loan spell with Poole Town in 2014 which came to a premature end after he had sustained a serious ankle injury in an FA Cup tie against Bradford Town.

Joining Eastleigh would allow Matthews to keep training with Carl Fletcher’s under-21 squad during the week.
